Heh. Come May 3rd, 2011, after three years at the top, looks like the RPFers will have a new hero to armor:

Check out that detailing! I love the discs. That there is Chris Hemsworth, Kirks father from the latest Star Trek. I liked the choice when he was announced, as he's a fine actor, but wasn't sure if he really looked the part. Oh man, does he what?!? Can. Not. Wait.

PS: Living in Ireland sometimes has it's advantages. Iron Man 2 rocks. Saw it last night. You guys in the US are going to go ape over some of the prop designs. Trust me.

Erm, forgive my ignorance, but who is the character? :$
D'oh. Sorry about that glaring omission. Sometimes I forget just how geeky I can be! I just assumed, stupidly, that everyone would instantly recognize the Marvel comics interpretation of the Norse God of Thunder. Heh. Thankfully WarMachine and CardBoard King were on hand to assist. Sorry again.

I think Chris looks great in the role, although hes already getting some backlash because he isnt as bulky as thor should be. I like it though and dont forget Destroyer who also is in the movie

Not sure how the suit works, its 9' tall and it looks like its boots are anchored

That my friend is Thor. The Viking God of Thunder. One of the most powerful marvel Characters.

Im so glad the kept his avenger costume.

Ehhh the Hulk will always be the strongest un stoppable Marvel character he even beats the gods hell Beta Ray bill kicked Thor's *** and has the better hammer because of it so I say don't count all your eggs in one basket with this character he'll never be as popular as the other Heros even with a up and coming movie look at Ghost rider how well did that work out.

I hope to god this movie lives up to the stature set forth by its title character. Although, I must admit cloth armor is more what I think of with Thor. That movie screen cap makes me think of a more 'Batman'-style armor, with the form fitting latex-y stuff and whatnot. Thor could out-armor the Avengers naked, so why the need for that kind of costume?

And EASILY, Thor would be one of the best costumes for me. I'm 6'1", 180, and my grandpa's girlfriend tells me I look like a Viking. ...I guess I was born in the wrong century.

Anyway, if anyone has posts to a good Thor armor/costume build, I would be most interested. The only thing google has been able to scrounge up for me is a few Mjolnir builds.

EDIT: @MirrorminD, I think that anchored statue is used as a CGI lighting and texture reference. If he's 9' tall, he's going to be all CGI.

That is great! I was wondering if he was going beard or beardless. And destroyer? Wow! One bad ass!

Looks cool. I've never understood Thor, though. I don't get the whole "god as a superhero" thing.

Some people are super and are then like gods, some just are ;-)

As far as popularity, no I don't think Thor will be more popular than many of the other heroes, but I have a feeling this movie will help his popularity.

I believe the story line they're using for the Avengers movie is going to follow closely to the Ultimate Avengers comics, which featured the Hulk as one of the Avengers, so no vs. just yet.

Sorry, the series was just called the Ultimates: http://marvel.com/digitalcomics/titles/ultimates.2002

Cheers for sharing that. I never even knew there was a film coming out :p Oh and welcome to another irishman!

Interested to see more pics. Hoping it doesn't look as rubbery in the end. The chest piece could be cool if its more leather, I hate what I see of the arms. I guess the greatest power of the Norse gods was extracting latex from rubber trees :lol

Destroyer looks Bad**s though.
