I'm looking forward to seeing this. I'm interested in the Superhero Repulsor Kit and I'm subscribing to this thread right now!
Quick question. Will the wires, from the arc reactor to the gauntlet, light up? You could use EL wires to get that "power transfer" look.
Also, have you thought about making "open" versions of the gauntlet, such as this one:
I'm in for a superhero. Sounds awesome.
I am so impressed by the level of ingenuity that comes out of this community!! I'm officially joining the Darkside!! You rock man.
Interested in the SuperHero Kit + amplifier!
Loving these!! Just a quick question, with your kit is it possible to charge the repulsors without them firing the blast sound effect? Kind of a 'threaten mode' like in this clip Iron Man to the Rescue - Iron Man (8/9) Movie CLIP (2008) HD - YouTube @17 second mark and this clip Captain America & Iron Man vs. Loki - Fight Scene - YouTube about 1 min 20...
Actually, yes I can. I already did that for a friend of mine... I can offer the sound FX in this format as well. Only problem is that you have to chose... do you want the repulsors to blast or just power up and then power down? At this time I can't make them power up.... insert pause.... then blast, then power down.
I could do it if there were another switch to activate the blast sound, however, the power up...pause, blast, then power down sound effects don't really match up well with the current light FX. With the way the light effects work it is best to have either the power up/blast... then power down OR the power up... then power down sound FX. Both of those sound sequences match up to the current light FX.
With some further development it is possible to make a unit that will power up..... then blast on command (light and sound FX)... then power down. Pretty much the only thing standing in the way of this is coming up with a clever way of triggering the blast which could be a challenge to somehow activate a switch while your hand is in the blast position. If you have any suggestions I am all ears.
I saw a study done at a college once where they used a muscle electrode sensor to detect when a muscle contracts. They used this to trigger some event. So with a lot of work and expense it would be possible to put one of these electrode patches on your biceps (for example) and then trigger the blast by flexing your biceps muscle. But now you are talking big bucks and a long time in development. lol
I would prefer to come up with a cheaper, easier solution, lol.
Just as an idea/possible solution for this or maybe future runs- Is it possible to have the sound effects set before the hand makes any movement at all? i.e. say a toggle switch has 2 positions, in position one, the sfx with the blast plays when the hand strikes the pose and only changes when the switch is in position two which then plays the sfx without the blast sound. The toggle switch decides which sfx sequence you'd like to play and would only change when the toggle switch is changed... for example you could play the blast sound sequence all day if you want without changing a single setting. Does that make any sense at all?:lol Might be easier to explain with a flow chart presentation :wacko
Although.... Muscle electrodes would be awesome :lol
Well, that is an interesting idea... I believe that would be possible and could be offered with the current repulsor kit as well. It would involve more work to put together and program the sound module but it can be done. If there is enough interest then I could offer this as an add-on at an additional price otherwise I could do a one-off custom setup for just you. I could use a latching push button switch like the one to cut sound so that you could still toggle the sounds while in costume or it would be a cleaner build if I mounted the switch on the circuit board. That way you wouldn't have to contend with the extra wires... but it would be harder or maybe even impossible to switch while in costume depending on where you mount the circuit board.
Alternatively, I failed to mention in my previous post that if, for example, you ordered the kit with the power up/blast... power down sound sequence and then you got tired of it, you would be able to replace the sound sequence with the power up... power down SFX at anytime just by hooking the sound module up to a computer via a USB cable. Heck, you could even make the thin bark like a dog instead of blast and moo like a cow instead of power down if you wanted. You can program it to play whatever sounds you want (if you can understand computer programs and/or can follow directions). This could be fun for fun or for some kind of themed party.
I also though of another way to do the 3 separate sound effects without using muscle electrodes... it would still be a bit more expensive but it is doable... might hike the price up about $80 for two repulsors. That is quite a bit but maybe there is someone that wants this effect bad enough, lol. I will continue to give it some thought and see what else I can come up with.
Thanks Mike, sorry for potentially creating more work for you :behave
I'm interested in the extra bit even if it is just a custom for me
BTW how's your Lad doing?
He is doing fine now... it was just a sprained ligament (right term?). Anyways, it has pretty much healed up already... oh to be young and so resilient. :rolleyes Thanks for asking.
Hey darkside, i haven't been on in a while. Had some time consuming situations (work being most of it). Glad to see your son is good.
Also I am so excited for both the repulser and the servo sounds kits. Put me down for interest on both.

Any news on the demo video?
Just a quick follow up question... I'm about to pep some of Zabana's hands based on your PDO from your Mark VIII thread (thanks!). Should I not fool with the repulsor module in the center?
