Iron Man Research & Resources *Suit Available!*

Re: Iron Man Research & Resources

Thanks for the links everyone, I've been studying them closely... it's odd to think that Tony's entire hand was replaced in the garage scene where he learns to fire blasts from the hand repulsors.

Also, that BTS footage raises a few questions about the hands. Obviously there is a hard element that snaps over the softer material after the arm armor has been attached, but there is no repulsor unit in it. Is this because of the needs of the scene, or were the repulsors entirely a product of ILM?

I can't believe Marvel dropped the ball so badly on an "Art of" book, especially after Batman Begins and Superman Returns had absolutely great books. Hell, BB had two of them, one for props and another just for pre-pro art! :lol

Re: Iron Man Research & Resources

Anyone out there have any good clean shots of the "Jarvis" home computer link? I have a decent size piece of EL sheet that would work nicely for that.

Re: Iron Man Research & Resources

Neon, whats your plans after you gather up all your info ? Curious. If you posted that up on here somewhere I might have missed it. :)

This might be buried somewhere on the first page, but:

My selfish side is compiling info for a build in 3d. Once I model the suit in my computer I can convert it in Pepakura to paper model form, where I can print/cut/fold/glue the suit together on cardstock, then resin/fiberglass/bondo the pieces before molding. It allows me to make multiple size suits from one model, ensures symmetry and I can make any alterations I need to at any point.

It's the way Halo armor is usually built.

Re: Iron Man Research & Resources

Ah! Pepakura... i love that little *******! :lol

Any chance you can aquire the 3D model from the videogame?

Re: Iron Man Research & Resources

Apparently the PC version of the game is a port of the PSP version. The PS3 version has the best model of the bunch (and therefore closest to the ILM model) so I'm not sure of the quality of the model rip we'll eventually get.

But, I'm following a few forums closely, hopefully we'll get something good. I'm getting a copy of the PC version anyway, so I might have something myself soon.

:confused... Sounds like the artist sculptors is a dying race.

Seeing as how the original suit was designed and prototyped from 3d models, it only makes sense to use similar methods. It won't replace, in the foreseeable future, organic or character based art in the film/prop industry, but for items that are meant to be mechanical or mechanically produced I don't feel it "goes against the grain".

I wouldn't ask the maker of a watch to hand make every gear, nor someone making a turn key car for me to build the engine from scratch.

And I say all of this as a sculptor.

The only pic I have in my reference folder is from the rapidshare posted earlier...

It's also seen on the table, I think, where Pepper sets her laptop before helping Tony swap Arc reactors.

Re: Iron Man Research & Resources

Again my question:
Can anyone tell me what font they used for "IRON MAN" pictured above in NRF package - or where I can find it? Thx

Thanks. Looks like I might have to wait for a good screen grab from somewhere.

Same deal Neon, this is a good thread, wish this kinda stuff was around 8-6 mths back, but iI knowI am finding it usefull ! :thumbsup Good thread if I did not say that prior

Re: Iron Man Research & Resources

I know, I ordered it too. what I don't get though is how stuff like this isn't available now, when the film is out? unless it's timed to come out the same time as the *cough* blu-ray and DVD of the movie. cos september is 5 months after its at the cinema.

on a side note. all UK peeps. Borders are doing the Rinzler making of Indy book, for 20 notes, £5 off the rrp print price. so I got that. and not only that, it was in HARDBACK. cos I've only seen it listed as softback on amazon so far.
