Re: Iron man mk4 (wip) fingaz shoulder n arm mods

So I was eating lunch today and I decided to read the entire thread.
I'm so freaking blown away by the work you have done on the armor Mark.
Your work is just amazing! Wow! I think this is the best pepakura build ever. You do have some great skills!

I'm actually honored that you decided to get the helmet ahahhaah.
Keep it going!

Re: Iron man mk4 (wip) fingaz shoulder n arm mods

Your skills just bother me! LOL

Lmao Dericrw!!! I know right! Im looking at the shoulder bells, scratching my head, thinking how is that even possible?! If I tried that much detail with curved, etched lines I would have to redo it a hundred times and STILL not have it that perfect.

What did you use to cut those lines in the shoulder bells Fingaz? How did you lay them out to be accurate with each other? Beautiful work....absolutely amazing.

thanks rowdy,i'd like to say i had a magical elf do them, but i'd be lying.
nowt no simpler than,a pencil, bradawl n a needle file.draw the lines on,run over them with the bradawl cutting the line, the carve them out with the needle file, about 15/20 mins for the pair

Re: Iron man mk4 (wip) fingaz shoulder n arm mods

Hey fingaz,

I'm in the middle of doing the back and chest and I noticed today after I have already hardened the pep, that the two pieces do not line up correctly. Do you have any tips on how you got yours to line up so flawlessly ? Anything helps! THANKS!

hi Dericrw
pep can be a pain in the butt, add resin, add fibreglass=pep distorts.
so its all a case of thinking on your feet, and making it up(creating fixes) as you go along
my chest n back is all in one.
to do this i made 2 spacers from a piece of wood to make the gap even where the raised bits by the neck almost meet the chest.
i then cut 2 pieces of plastic into strips,1 for each side where the front and rear meet.attached them to the rear on the outside with 2 self tapping screws, then butted the front/chest piece up to the rear, and then fastened the front piece to the plastic with 2 self tappers.
after you've done both sides then fibreglass the joint together inside with a few layers of mat.
remove the screws n plastic joints you then have a rigid structure, scim over the outside with filler, job done:)
you can always cut it into 2 again at a later date.

hope this helps

Re: Iron man mk4 (wip) fingaz shoulder n arm mods

I hate you for raising the bar on the pep based IM. Now I have to work harder. LoL.

Thank you so much!

I kind of had something of the sort in mind, but its nice to know someone else has done it with such success!

Thanks again,
Derick

lol:lol

been slow on progress, but finally got a little more done now.
made the molds for the bicep, elbow guards and handplates from silicone.
then today polyflo 120 n 60 arrived from
MB Fibreglass supplies online UK & Ireland - mbfg.co.uk ,great service n if you call them, ryan's very helpful, even look up your build n give advice(y)thumbsup:thumbsup
never know my luck, might get a few 3 samples if he's reading this with my nxt order lol:lol:lol:lol
so afternoon spent casting, bicep mold needs thickening up a little,as a few depressions, very minimal fill, overall very happy with results, ready for paint:):),n a damn sight lighter than the pepped pieces, happy days

thanks terra1,
tips,i'll try:
primer ive been using 2k or cellulose high build depending on how much levelling rqd, lightly dust coated with matt black then wet flatted with 400,a light flat with 600.then onto base coat couple of coats of silver base dusted lightly,4/5 of red candy left 20/30 mins gone over with a tack rag to remove any dust settled on the piece.then clearcoat 1 light grip coat next heavier coats for gloss however many needed for it to settle right.just using some prospray lacquer at the moment 1 good wet coat n it settles beautifully:):)
if your anywhere nr bradford w yorkshire n need a hand get in touch, pm me can chat on fone

Re: Iron man mk4 (wip) fingaz bicep, elbow guards, handplates cast

Well from one Northern UK member to another, I tip my hat off to ya, that build, finish and paint job is second to none!

Lovely work mate. very well crafted. I've enjoyed reading through and seeing all the pics, Most impressive!

Just about to paint my Mark III so it's nice to see how you've handled this as I'm going with a Candy Blood red over Silver.
As you've worked with car bodies for so long I'm guessing you've used a spray gun rather than cans?

Great work fella, mighty impressive!
