Re: Iron Man Mark VI - second cardboard build (Bondo & Sanding Info / Armor Preview!)

everytime i look at this thread, i get the biggest grin on my face. have you decided how you're going to do the hands?

Re: Iron Man Mark VI - second cardboard build (Bondo & Sanding Info / Armor Preview!)

cool way to attatch the shoulders :)

What parts are going to be your "soft armor"?
Eva Foam neck, thigh extension & hips, elbow, knee, upper calf & forearm where all of the exposed areas are.:thumbsup
Looks great man! That's how I decided I'm attaching my shoulders too. It makes the whole chest assembly like football pads and 10x more convenient to put on. Your armor looks so beautiful and polished, perhaps some day I'll go in and give my suit a face-lift with some bondo...
I can't wait too see it how it is now!:love

I have a few Ideas you'll be surprised!
Lookin' great Delray!
Thanks, jordan I'm using Eva for my soft armor parts like you. - You've became the Michael Jordan of Foam! 23. I wanna be like Mike. :lol

Soft Armor update Guy's! Eva is easy to work with now I see how Don & GJ get their parts done so fast! I hand drew these pices experimenting with the eva foam. The thigh extensions are very comfortable and feel good with the cod piece and IM thighs. I can move freely and easily they're a keeper! They were a good Idea. I will build them again though. The neck plating is Finito! The elbo, back calf, and knee soft armor will be posted tommorow. I added a few teaser pics! as well showing off the shoulderbells I added. I'm modifying my boots and shoes that's why I havent posted pics of them yet. I'm going for a comfortable fit. Keep Building!....:love

that gorget is gorgeous :) The foam just looks great. Is that the same material they make yoga mats out of?

that's great to know..had thought about playing around with that material but always seemed to find it in pastel colors

Re: Iron Man Mark VI - second cardboard build (Soft Armor Preview!)

These Iron Man builds are amazing. I have a question about the final assembly though. It looks like the cardboard (or whatever material is used) is folder and then fiberglass or resin or something is applied over the cardboard. If this is correct, why is this approach used rather than trying to make a silicone mold of the folded piece and then running resin or fiberglass in the mold?

Thanks, and great job to everyone putting together one of these suits!

That's. A very expensive approach when someone wants to make 1 suit for themselves.

Re: Iron Man Mark VI - second cardboard build (Soft Armor Preview!)

I continue to be amazed at the various IM builds here. Such a level of creativity and camaraderie among everyone. Fantastic work Blackdynamo. Makes me wish I had the time to start just working on the pep helmet files I've printed out.

I appreciate the compliment. I'm still a Newbie myself, and I used to feel the same way when I first joined. Oh and welcome to RPF. :thumbsup
