Iron Man Mark VI - Brazil - My first armor

Hi people! I'm a newbie - made only two Batman TDK suits until now (my first with cardboard, and my second with foam - will post pics as soon the summer give a truce. Both made from scratch). My dream, however, always was an Iron Man armor. I've downloaded pep files of Mark VI and started my build. My question now is: all of you who have made it before, have scaled down the pep files? Now that I've build the biceps, I'm thinking it is too big.... I'm an average guy, 1,75m height, and the armor looks like made for a bodybuilder, lol!!!!

I have made some progress these last days and I was able to adjust the scaling, after reading some tutorials. I was in a hurry to build the armor, and neglected this important step, among others.

My build was really really oversized to my height, and I started from zero again. At least I'm happy, because everything is fitting and I achieved much more know how. As soon as I make a good progress, I'll post more pics.

Hi mate! Glad you've asked. I'm using 5 mm thickness foam, for craftworks. I bought red and yellow just to give a "taste" of the final result to be achieved. I bought it in a craftwork store in my city, which sells carnival costumes and many other items to make your own costume.

No problem finding good foam... The real problem is the price...

Finished all upper pieces, except by the helmet and gloves. Finished the cod piece, and working at the thighs right now (so many parts :cry - used 3 and a half sheets of foam for both legs). I'll post all the process, with all my newbie hints, after have the job done (hope finish in 2 or 3 weeks - not much spare time these days to work in the armor... ).

Hi there! Using 5 mm thickness foam, for craftworks; lots of hot glue; printing templates in a 180 gm2 paper (it's more firm to draw around it); drawing the templates in the foam with a common blue ball point pen; cutting with a good scissor (no knifes - just scissor. Yeah, it works fine). For cutting and glueing, I'm using hints from this post, which I found veeeeeeeeeery useful:

Well, let me share my process, with some hints about what I think it's most important. Please, bear in mind I'm a complete newbie.

Below it's the setup of my "workstation"

1 - Cutted templates. I always keep them around, in the case of doing something wrong and have to re-do. After a piece is glued and ready, I put these templates inside an identified envelope (for example: "Iron Man Mark VI chest"; "Iron Man Mark VI forearm"...) for future use (in the case I'll want to build again...).
2- Work area. It's where I draw the templates over the EVA foam, where I cut and where I glue. It's where I almost fall asleep, if I do this by late night....
3 - My faithfull friend, the hot glue gun
4 - An old newspaper. My glue gun drips, and it's a very bad idea have your table full of glue spots (specially if you are married). I keep this piece of paper there, so the glue gun can drips and you save your head from decapitation from your wife. :love
5 - My other faithfull friends: cutting tools. I use a scissor, basically. X-acto knife? Sorry, didn't find one to buy around and don't want to place an order for one.
6 - Large pieces of foam - flaps from the foam cutting process. Usefull for repairs ou filling gaps between spaces.
7 - "Garbage can". OK, that's a sack, not a can. Use anything to put your trash inside ans save you from the rage of your wife. :behave

About scaling:
I read the hints at How To Scale Your Pepakura Armour-Tutorial.

However, I adopted other method I've read somewhere here, which consists of a) printing templates in common paper b) joining them (I used tape) c) wearing the piece and verifying if it's OK.
If the piece it's OK, I still add about 15mm in the width (considering the thickness of the foam I'm using - 5mm x 2 with a bit of space added). Using Pepakura Designer 3 for scale adjusts. It's a labor-intense method? Of course! But it is much worst re-do after you have the entire foam piece ready.....

It's very empiric, I know. But it works, you'll see. :lol

And here, neck and abs (front). I didn't glue the pieces side-by-side; instead, I've made it with that "stair" appearance.

And after much blood, sweat and tears, here are the thighs!

I have build one who was out of scale... :behave Used the experience to know how to glue the pieces properly. Was really challenging glueing the thighs, but I'm happy they are finished!!!

So much parts... If you're wondering ask me to "how about modified files for speed building"? Well, I thought about that. Really. I've downloaded modded files, as well. But that's my first IM armor, and I don't know how to speed build as good as many other here, so I was afraid to try.

So, I've armed myself with lots of patience and glue sticks, and here we are!

Well, I've complained about the thighs (too much pieces). That was until I face the shin.......... Ooooh my! :confused

Finished the shins. Too much pieces (used 3 and a half sheets of foam, the file used was not modded for speedbuilding), lots of glueing, but I liked so much of the final result! Took the pic with the thigh just to have a look (they are not assembled in each other yet).
