Iron Man 3 (Post-release)

My two cents. I enjoyed the film. It was cerebral and unexpected. I think that is why a lot of people didn't like it... It wasn't what they expected. They went into the theater with a very specific plot in mind, and got thrown for a loop. I thought the Trevor subplot was a stroke of genius, but I was still waiting for him to pull a Keyser Soze at the end. I think that could make a great post-credits scene for setting up IM4, if they wanted to give The Mandarin the "proper" treatment.

As for the suits, the pre-release hype was all about merchandising. The mk42 was always meant to be the featured suit of the film, which is why it was the only suit showcased at ComicCon, and it was heavily featured in the film. All of the others suits were set dressing and eye candy, nothing more. Sure it would have been nice to see a scene or two showcasing some of the other suits, which will probably happen via deleted scenes. Shane Black said on an Empire podcast that the original cut was 3 hours and 15 minutes, meaning they cut out over an hour of film. I have no doubt we will see more suit action on the bluray release.

Maybe not ALL 42 but most of them, and at least better screen time with maybe descriptions. Maybe little tid bits of them doing their specialized jobs. They made such a big deal about all the suits then we see the movie and nothing (very little). Ruined the movie IMO. Seems others think so too. The movie just felt rushed to fit everything in. Maybe what would have been better is less suits and more screen time?

Sorry I'm a suit junkie lol

I finally saw it yesterday, and TOTALLY loved it. I'm a HUGE Shane Black fan anyway, and yeah, it felt like those classic '80s action movies I still loved. Great action scene pacing: (the "hot" arm gets severed, then falls to the plank, then starts melting it...All the shedding/ejecting suits & pieces, etc. Just so good.)

I stayed away from major spoilers, and was actually really surprised by most of the twists. I could not have had a better time.

As for losing the Arc, I was sad to see it go, too, but understood. Plus, Rhodey doesn't need one implanted in his chest to power WM, so it's not like he can't have suits without one in his chest.

On a related note, if you haven't seen Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, you should.

IMO, I don't understand how you can be a fan of Tony Stark/Iron Man and say you "HATED" this movie. If you hate that Mandarin wasn't shown as some offensive Asian stereotype, shooting ice from his rings, I don't know what to tell you. If your hate stems from all 42 suits didn't have their own specialized scene, or Riverdanced at the end or something, that's ridiculous. That all being said, I'd love to see what they cut, but likely like the extra scenes in the first Iron Man, we might find the movie works better without 'em.

The entire point of the movie is that Tony is more than his machines. While they look awesome (and we like building them) thematically, he thinks they're his life, but comes to realize they're lawnmowers and blenders to him.

I 100% agree with this. I really enjoyed the movie and I'm actually glad they didn't go through all 42 suits that would be ridiculous IMO. Not as good as 1 but better than 2. :)

Spot on assessment right there! :thumbsup

In the end of the movie and with how the end credits were (showcasing all 3 movies) it seems to me that they closed the Ironman series. What do you guys think?

Well I found the scene I was an extra in. they cut two of my scenes, but at least I made it in. It's fast so it's hard to see me but I got some stills from it. Unfortunately this was the 3d version so it came out blurry when I snagged the pics. I'll have to try to get it in 2d or wait till blue ray to make out my face. I'm in the upper right standing behind the black lady at the railing and to the right of the guy in the green shirt. I'm holding a cup in my hand and I'm wearing a dark blue polo shirt. It was a fun day , getting to see RDJ and Rhodes do their stuff.

Feige said recently they aren't working on IM4 yet because Iron Man is a big part of Avengers 2. But I guarantee there will be more IM movies

Nice job streetjudge ! Did you get to see RDJ partially suited up or was it entirely cgi ?

It was CG. He was there but they had those little ball things attached to his shirt. They did have the two stand in suits for lighting, position which were cool. But they were static statues.

I loved it. Everything about it was great. They especially outdid themselves with the humour. You can definitely see the difference between the shooting style and overall feel between Shane Black and John Favreau. I also really enjoyed how they did the final battle. The way he kept switching suits was awesome. While it would of been neat to see more suits doing their specialty during the fight, they had to focus more on the actual battle between stark and killian. Someone mentioned that Black said the original cut was just over 3 hours so I can only hope that there will be a directors cut that showcases more. I was a little surprised by the after credit scene but at the same time not really as I doubt at this point Thanos would do anything until closer to the Avengers.

I like to think that this will be a perfect setup for the avengers 2 with Tony having destroyed all his suits, he will undergo the extremis operation (probably gets messed up somehow) and becomes Iron Man once more. Also Guy Pearce was friggin awesome. I really was expecting Mandarin to be a heavy in the film and the little twist took me by surprise and I quite enjoyed it.

As for why tony didn't call up a suit of armor to take on mandarin, my take was a couple of things. First Jarvis was messed up. The only way he had access to him was via the suit which was damaged and had no power. Secondly, there was a ton of rubble still piled up on the house and needed to be cleared away. Considering the size of the opening for the suits, I doubt they would of been able to get out. Lastly, he had the element of surprise on his hands. Killian thought tony was dead. The only ones who knew he was still alive was the kid, pepper, and Rhodey.

This threads now getting busy so more people are asking or saying things already answered. Or points already made. Not that its an issue.
I think its hard for these movies to get so big and so much better and at some point you gota hope they go sideways and not down. As a suprise and to be blown away only happens for so long. You get used to it. They can only go so far and you have to learn to appreciate it for what it is and not expect it to be 10x bettet then the last. Or I guarentee you wont enjoy it. I try to keep my expectations low so im not expecting the undoable.
There was always going to be some people who hated it. And everyones entitled to their own opinion. I just wish it didnt turn into a sla****g match.

People are just expressing their entitled opinions. What's wrong with that? That being said, you're probably not gonna like mine. :lol

I've had 24 hours to digest this movie and the fact that I had to take that time in order to decide how I felt does not bode well. There was lots I liked about this movie but also just enough I didn't like that it kinda ruined it for me. Admittedly my expectations were high. But I am not an IM fanboy. Don't think I've ever read a comic. So that the Mandarin didn't hold true to his roots or they didn't feature all the armors didn't bother me at all. Without RDJ and his incredible comedic timing I would have hated this movie. But he redeemed it enough for me so I didn't have to put it in the same category as Spider-man 3. My biggest problem was I felt the writing was really lazy. Not RDJ's zingers obviously (which the best ones are usually improvised), but the overall writing. Lazy and forced. And I am typically the guy who can sit back, pound popcorn into to me, and just enjoy a movie for what it is. Not yesterday though.

I didn't go with my wife yesterday and she can't wait to see it but I haven't had the heart to tell her I'm not really interested in seeing it again. Probably just have to suck it up and power through it one last time. :lol

Why are people arguing? This movie was amazing, it was about Ironman. Ironman is awesome. We are lucky they even make theses films for us. Let's just all get along and enjoy an amazing franchise. Thanks Tony!

It is like the last one. It has turned into a video game and an opportunity to sell more toys. If he can pilot it remotely then why even bother going outside? The flying parts was totally ridiculous. Let me just jump into this suit in midair. Then let me direct it to form around someone else by pointing at them. Sheeze.
