Iron Man 3 (Post-release)

It's a film set in a universe with Norse gods, a man who can turn into an unstoppable beast, a genetically modified super soldier and aliens. At what point does any of this film become ridiculous?

Why are you people getting so upset over others' opinions? Some people like it for certain reasons, some people think its ok/mediocre for some reasons, and some think it sucked for some reasons. I dont get why you come on an internet forum and get offended over an opinion? Dont bash someone because they liked or didnt like it or act like somethings wrong with them. Lets all express ourselves freely, be nice to each other, and accept each others views :)

It is like the last one. It has turned into a video game and an opportunity to sell more toys. If he can pilot it remotely then why even bother going outside? The flying parts was totally ridiculous. Let me just jump into this suit in midair. Then let me direct it to form around someone else by pointing at them. Sheeze.

The whole "prehensile suit" idea is just the next evolution for Tony to always be ready for whatever comes at him. It started with the Mark V suitcase suit, then the wristbands for the Mark VII Avengers suit that summoned the entire suit to him. This movie has all the suits individually powered separately from the arc reactor so they can be controlled via remote control (vaguely similar to the Chitauri army)... unfortunately they seemed to write backwards compatibility out so he had to recharge the Mark XVII in Tennessee with the "wall socket adapter" (biggest problem I have with the new suits). It's all ever-evolving. No doubt if/when there's an IM4 or in Avengers 2 he'll modify/adapt Extremis and put the suit INSIDE him (nanotechnology) so he'll always be Iron Man (with no arc reactor... :thumbsdown) no matter when or where he is.

The film is going to make tons of cash regardless of people's opinions of the plot and it's twist. To me, this felt like a somewhat more comedic version of Dark Knight Rises. It was more about Tony Stark/Bruce Wayne becoming a "more whole" person and less about Iron Man/Batman. I liked it... won't say I loved it, but I don't think it's what a lot of people were expecting.

Nobody is getting upset with you because of your opinion. We're getting upset with you because of your poor articulation of it.

I didn't like the movie. I love Iron Man, so there is no bias here. But unfortunately my passion for the character lead me to high expectations for IM3 and greatly let down. They had a great opportunity to merge the extremis story into this movie. Instead they botch everything. I wasn't expecting 100 percent true to the comic, but they stripped it for all it's worth and produced IM 3. There was never a moment where Ironman is potrayed as a bad ass like he has been in every movie he has done. He was the butt of all jokes, with his mk 42 falling apart all the time. And then end fight scene were his armors, which we wished to see kick some ass, instead get their limbs torn off. There is an endless list of how this movie went wrong. But of all things, it's not the hero of the film who doesn't kill the main villain, but his gf Pepper. And I get there needs to be a comedic element to make these movies be enjoyable for everyone, but they are just going too far with it. IM 3 should have had the same feel as Dark Knight Rises. Just like how the trailer made it appear to be.

All in all, 7/10 as a movie, but 3/10 as a IM movie.

Iron Man 3(spoilers)...Cause for concern for phase 2?

Where do we go now? If Iron Man 3 is to be the opening salvo for the second phase of Marvel’s movies Iron Man 3 takes us in a very unfamiliar world. For the average movie watcher IM3 will be entertaining but will leave many comic book readers & collectors out in the cold. They somehow thought it was ok to turn one of Marvels most diverse villains into something that wouldn’t even make it past Saturday morning cartoons.

The first half of the movie is just what we the comic book readers and average moviegoer expected. Than something happens oddly enough when the “Big Reveal/Twist Mandarin” from there I began to scratch my head and wonder about the movie. I was no longer along for the ride; I was no longer enjoying the ride but quickly noticing how even though we were teased with all these great armors they simply were tossed aside for fireworks. Details and plot problems arose and I was no longer having fun. In fact I would think it was almost as laying bait for my comic book brain to give question to the entire movie… and what happens is you come away feeling as though something isn’t right. The movie from that point picks up into a rush ended that felt like school boys had only twenty minutes to wright the last 20 minutes of the movie.

Though truly, what really drove the nail home was my son asking “why is (he) Iron man if he doesn’t need the arc reactor?” There lays the complete core problem, Marvel characters are not happy endings but are filled with ongoing tragic moments that when they do act, that action defines their heroism. As much as they wanted to wrap this up into three tidy movies Iron man or any Marvel character is not going to have that.

What does this mean for Cap & Bucky? Does it mean we are about to see an incredibly depressed Super Solider as they (Marvel) bring the Winter Soldier story to life? How far can Marvel and Kevin Feige depart from the source material before they start to lose the essence of what makes Marvel such an enjoyable comic to read?

As a movie for the non-comic book readers, who only know Marvel for the movies and products IM3 gives them that happy ending. For the loyal die hard comic book readers it will give pause and concern, where does this put Thor, Cap & the future of marvel? I believe that IM3 was as close to tipping point of leaving the source material without outright angering both the fan and the comic book fan.

I still find myself conflicted; I liken this to X-men First class because you sort of need to toss your comic book mind away to accept the story. I honestly don’t like doing that, I go to the movies to see movies about the characters I read about in the comics I own. When that happens I simply start to see actors and CGI and no longer the enjoyment of the movie.

As to the actors, amazing acting for the story they told, the CGI and stunts were all top notch but the story and the tampering of characters plants a seed a doubt, at least for me, as to the future of Marvel movies.

Saw it last night and I throughly enjoyed it. Was the best movie ever made? Definitely not in my opinion, but I still had fun and will be going to see it in imax 3d the next time.

Re: Iron Man 3(spoilers)...Cause for concern for phase 2?

I'm not worried one bit. Why does Tony need the arc reactor to be Iron Man? It was removed in the comics, was it not? It doesn't power his suits, it keeps the shrapnel out of his heart. If he can have the shrapnel removed, he doesn't need the arc anymore.

I really enjoyed it. I don't know anything about Iron Man's story arcs in the comics, so thankfully I was not disappointed by the Mandarin Twist (sounds like a soft drink). That said, please don't hate me when my following comments come from the frame of reference of IM 1, 2, 3 and the Avengers

I do agree with those that said the Mandarin could have been a Ledger-(wait for it)-dary performance. It took a couple scenes before I believed that it actually WAS what it was, and not just an awesome misdirection by the "real" Mandarin. But, that's not what we got, and I think that what they did instead totally worked within the context of the film. After all, everyone assumes that the bad guy is Other these days, and in some ways it was worse to see someone co-opting that for their own perverted purposes.

It did make me sad to see the arc reactor removed from Tony. Why didn't he have it done earlier? My understanding was that if they tried surgery he wouldn't survive. So my inference from the final scenes was that after Tony fixed the Extremis to save Pepper, he also injected himself with it so he couldn't die while they removed the shrapnel. Hence his statement of "I AM Iron Man". Maybe I was reading too much into it, because if that were the case I would have expected to see some final scene where he and Pepper both have the glow.

As far as Pepper Potts, it was really nice to see her do get to do some bad-assery. And for giving an easy cosplay for the ladies.. an Iron Man suit arm, about a million situps, and a black sports bra ;) Not sure how I feel about her having an actual super power now (again, I assume Stark stabilized Extremis, not figured out how to remove it from her). I liked that her strength came from her intelligence and devotion to Tony. It was a nice touch at the end when, after going all ape **** on Killian, she was instantly worried about what happened to her.

Anyway, I came really late to the Iron Man game; I avoided it because I didn't think my heart had room for another "billionaire playboy" after Batman. Then all the IM builds on here had me appreciating the design of the suit, then I saw the Avengers and really understood what his character was like, and then I became obsessed with the first two movies. So this was the first IM movie I was excited about, and for me it lived up to my expectations.

First things first: I liked Iron Man 3 as an Action Movie but I din't like it as an Iron Man movie.
I went to the theater and I was expecting it to not be as good as Iron Man 1 or 2 (and yes I enjoyed Iron Man 2 for the Buddymovie parts with Rhodey) due to the fact that Jon Favreau was no longer the director of the movie. But the twist were a little bit to dull in my opinion and I wanted to see the Mandarin not Trevor. The suits were fantastic but they could have introduced them better. As an actionmovie Ironman 3 worked pretty well but because I've read all the comics I was dissappointed. At least the after-credit-scene is great altough i was expecting it to follow the steps of Iron Man 2 and point at the new Thor movie. A friend of mine told me that Ironman 3 was like Matrix for him: 1 was great 2 ok and 3 was just one that doesnt want to fit in.

You guys that are getting hung up on the arc... You're forgetting that the arc doesn't power the suits anymore. It's only purpose was to keep the shrapnel out of his heart. He had the shrapnel removed, so he doesn't need the arc anymore. It was the final aspect of his "clean slate".

yip agreed! rhodey has no arc and manages to use his suit no probs.

TravisO, I'm curious to know what plot holes did you think you saw ? I'm fairly sure more than half of them can be explain easily by paying attention. It's like TDKR all over again. Either it's there and you missed it, or you just have to use your brain. Just because it doesn't appear on the camera doesn't mean it's a plot hole... Not saying there are no plot holes, but quite frankly I don't really see any.

Hmm....
You comic guys should give it a rest. You did the same thing with TDKR and now IM3.
If you loved the comics, fine but let's enjoy a good movie... please.

Actually im not an iron man comic guy but i dint find it to be a great movie. Enjoyed watching it but had higher expectations.

People are just expressing their entitled opinions. What's wrong with that? That being said, you're probably not gonna like mine. :lol

I've had 24 hours to digest this movie and the fact that I had to take that time in order to decide how I felt does not bode well. There was lots I liked about this movie but also just enough I didn't like that it kinda ruined it for me. Admittedly my expectations were high. But I am not an IM fanboy. Don't think I've ever read a comic. So that the Mandarin didn't hold true to his roots or they didn't feature all the armors didn't bother me at all. Without RDJ and his incredible comedic timing I would have hated this movie. But he redeemed it enough for me so I didn't have to put it in the same category as Spider-man 3. My biggest problem was I felt the writing was really lazy. Not RDJ's zingers obviously (which the best ones are usually improvised), but the overall writing. Lazy and forced. And I am typically the guy who can sit back, pound popcorn into to me, and just enjoy a movie for what it is. Not yesterday though.

I didn't go with my wife yesterday and she can't wait to see it but I haven't had the heart to tell her I'm not really interested in seeing it again. Probably just have to suck it up and power through it one last time. :lol

Its hilarious that you can write but apparently cant read. Its exactly what im talking about. Where did I say there was a problem about people expressing their opinions. Pretty sure I said its not an issue. And that I just dont see how it has to turn into name calling etc.
As your a well respected member ill give you the benefit that you didnt read it correctly.

Its not that he needs the arc. Its that in AVENGERS he said that its a part of him now. But I wont let it spoil it. Its about moving on. I would have just preferred to have him kept it.

yeah I see ur point, but anyway I still thought it was a good film. I do agree that the other suits didn't have enough exposure though.

I loved it. Way better than 2. I understand people's critiques but don't agree with most of them. A solid 8/10 for me. Off to look for foam Patriot files!

I think it's hilarious that you can complain about all the insults in this thread and then hurl one at me in your first sentence. :lol Anyway, no hard feelings from my end. I've said my piece about the movie and I've moved on. Even though it was well below my expectations I am quite happy that others were able to enjoy it.
