I'm also not keen on the new suit from the way it looks, although it lends itself to some possibly interesting/simple construction methods for costuming/replicating.
It seems to be mostly made of lots of small pieces in layers, even the large single coloured areas like the (gold) shin parts are broken up with lines. So, rather than Pepakura for all of it, it might be worth using some thin sheet material formed/stretched over the same shaped formers/bucks, and then cut different details out of each layer and overlap them to make up each larger piece.
Since the details are provided by the layers, you wouldn't even need a vacuum former - just a positive buck and plastic sheets in a suitable shaped frame to heat and stretch over the positive. Since the individual pieces aren't too large, heating the sheets wouldn't be too tricky either.
You could probably have a fair go with Sintra/Fomex/Foam PVC sheet and use the method they use for Boba armour of heating the sheet and pressing the buck into it / into a cushion.
Obviously thin foam for the details backed up with thicker foam on the inside would be possible too.
