Interesting article on new xbox

Pricing of games for console and pc are different because of licensing.

You have to pay sony, microsoft, or nintentdo for the right to use the game on their platform - that is passed on to the customer.

I don't know if they still do, but nintendo used to double dip. They charged developers for the right to make a game for their machine AND they charged them for using their proprietary media. That's why nintendo stayed on cartridges longer and why their dvd/blu ray drives don't use 'standard' disks. If it's standard, you can't charge a licensing fee.

It's the point of making a console - you get a cut of all games.

Microsoft Restructuring To Match Ballmer's Vision - Forbes

The kicker in all this: Don Mattrick is rumored to have a LARGER role. :facepalm

"Larger role," yes, but in what? It might be the kind of promotion that puts him somewhat more behind the scenes as the guy with the overall vision for the division, but no longer out in front doing the PR work.

What's interesting, though, is that the one programmer who blabbed about the "always on" bit and basically said "Deal with it," got the axe, yet he seemed to be simply an example of the culture within that unit.

Telling a hacker they don't have much of a chance only makes them want to try it more.

No it doesn't necessarily, Hackers will be busy just trying to get the exploit to work, But its not done remotely! (There was jailbreakme for the iPhone but the user had to physically go to the website and ok it) That's the point I'm making. A hacker viewing you through your Kinect is only if via an already accomplished exploit at best. How on earth do you think they get in there? If you don't exploit or run anything unsigned... your safe. Now be told! lol

It's a piece of cake to hack PS3's and 360's. They're basically PC's. I'm not hacking savvy but I hacked and modded my PS1-2 and 3 to be able to chat actively online without consequence. Every time they update you have to raise the bar and do something new. These console hackers are very good and extremely smart. Both systems will be hacked in no time.

I don't know where you get your info but it is FAR from a piece of cake. It may be easy to mod following a tutorial but its hard work to discover exploits and make them usable. Absolute waffle!

The PS3 unsigned code exploit was a good shot at best. Ps3 updated it and overcame it. So only those who don't update etc still enjoy those privileges. It takes months to discover and make usable exploits. If its done at all. But its unheard of for it to happen on a console without the user participating. Its not just an update followed by a new hack and easy as pie. And if you don't know you shouldn't pretend to lol.

Well with the used games and always on thing out of the way the main issues left for them to address is the steep price tag and the mandatory kinnect crap. They've done a step in the right direction but the mandatory kinnect would still stop me from buying it until a hack comes out to get around it.

Mr. Mattrick. Your getting a larger role... We want you to open the new data processing facility at the North pole...

Yeah his larger role will be as far from the public as possible. I think the only thing saving his job is the fact that he was pretty high ranking and probably has dirt on someone.

It's not any steeper than the PS4 and it's cheaper than the PS3 and 360 were at release 8 years ago.

Sure, it's $100 more than the PS4 (last time it was the other way around and sony still lost money on each console for years) but you're getting more hardware in the process, too. Kinect (regardless of what you think of it) is $100 add on now i believe (or was at launch) and bigger hard drive additional abilities etc.

You can't compare the price, really, to current consoles as they've had EIGHT years to streamline and improve the processes in making them as well as 8 years for the components to drop in price.

How mattrick still has a job is inexplicable.

Depends heavily on the specific game. Some games are the same price, some are cheaper. Call of Duty, for example, tends to be the same price regardless of platform. I saw just today that the new Deadpool game (comes out tomorrow) is only $40 on Steam, and that's a brand new title. $60 on consoles.

Call of duty has that popularity where it guarantees that it'll pretty much stay the same price for years. It was a long time ago but I remembered walking into wal mart when black ops had come out and Modern Warfare 2 was still $60 and it stayed that way for a while after BO was out. I'm gonna be buying deadpool (depending on the reviews) but I won't be buying it first day, I'll wait for it to go to $30 which I have a feeling won't take long.

Yeah, I saw the launch trailer today for Deadpool, it looks hilarious. If the gameplay's good, that one's a definite buy for me.

Iv watched a deadpool gameplay trailer and it looks hilarious. But lools like it could be eituer very good. Or one of those games where once you have laughed for an hour it gets boring(family guys road to the multiverse springs to mind)

IGN gave it a 6/10. Said its fun and a little quirky but not very imaginative and gets very repetitive. I'm definitely waiting for this to go cheaper before buying it.

Yeah, from what I've seen it looks like little more than a vehicle for a deadpool comedy hour. Probably a bargain bin game in a month.

Steam sale coming up next week, I'll hold off and see if they do a surprise early discount. Looks great from the trailers, seems quite refreshing compared to all the other games that take themselves so damned seriously.. nice to see one that's all about goofing off and poking fun. Probably pick this one up when it gets under $30.

Stale and unimaginative is everything Deadpool since about the mid 90s when he and wolverine became Marvels characters to over expose.
