Interesting article on new xbox

After all this, I still will be getting a PS4. I really don't trust MS any longer. I am upgrading my comp for better gaming and will buy the PS4 ether in September 2014 or that Christmas. I will wait till any possible bugs have been discovered and worked out. Also by then there should be some good games to choose from.

I think I got Sleeping Dogs off of Steam this year for, what $7? It included all the DLC, too. The trick is not merely to wait for games to lower in price, but to wait for them to lower in price and THEN go on sale for some ridiculously lower price than their already discounted rate. It does, however, require patience.

The only thing really comparable is buying used games from Gamestop or somesuch, and paying, $20 or below for them. But the thing with Steam is that they'll do that with newer games and BETTER games, too.

Everything lowers in price if you wait long enough. Question is how long are you prepared to wait? Most people are not prepared to wait at all. Look at opening weekend sales. I never played it so dont know its market position and how good it is viewed.
Quick look on just one website shows 9 quid delivered. Pre owned. Probably be able to find it cheaper. With a pretty much guarenteed trade in of a 5er for some time. Thats no dlc but 4 quid. And thats not on sale.

Im pretty sure I can find games that my local asda sell cheaper then steam too.
Theyve got loads of games on at 20 gpb at minute. Newer then watch dogs but not brand new so had time to lower. Eg new tomb raider. Its 30 on steam....

If you were to tell me new games like fifa. Halo. Bf and cod were gonna drop within a month or two id be really impressed. And sceptical. Theres no proof on steam or anywhere else to suggest this could happen. It seems like a lot of change just for the odd person who is willing to wait and ill bet for every cheaper steam game I can find a cheaper physical version. Ill bet less people are willing to wait then what were affected by all the rules in the first place.

Dont forget. Pc games are cheaper in general too. So thats something to consider.

So far the only benefit I see is if im willing to wait 12 months I may get a game 2 quid cheaper then the store. Its hardly a big difference. And this is all also based on trust. I gota say when I ask myself is it worth the risk. I cant believe it is for anyone unless theyre doing one of them tvs shows like survive on a quid a day. But more like save a quid on gaming. When everyone else is bored of playing you can get the game for a quid cheaper then the shops would be selling at.

Well, I don't know what your local game prices are like. All I can say is that when I look on amazon.com or look at prices for new games, the cost for a new game is usually a minimum of $30 and a max of $60. If I wait, that'll usually fall by 30-50% over 6-12 mos. On Steam, when there are sales, I can get them for 75% off.

And I'm not in a rush to buy games, either. If other folks are, that's their choice. Have it now at a higher price, or have it later at a lower price. Can you replicate this experience in the disc based world? Yeah, but it requires a trip to the store, taking up shelf space with the physical copy, and sometimes waiting much longer for the game to drop in price. Maybe that's worth it to some people to be able to own the media on which the game resides (remember: not the same as owning the game), but to me, I don't see any major difference in the ownership aspect, and downloading it is way more convenient.

Depends a lot on the game for me. It's either worth sixty bucks, or it isn't. Simple as that. I might be mildly interested in something, then pick it up for cheap when it's on sale (Sleepy Dogs is an example, I've barely played it). Or I may never pick it up, no matter how cheap it gets.

A couple people at Nintendo have recently had a very good point regarding used game sales. The solution is simple... make games that people won't want to sell. Devs are shooting themselves in the foot by making games with no replay value, or releasing annual iterative updates that make the old games redundant. You can't release Black Ops 2 and then get pissed when people trade in Black Ops 1. On the flip side, I'll never sell my copy of Shadow of the Colossus. Ever.

Tomb raider on amazon.com. 19 delivered pre owned. 30 on steam. The only way I can see it being better is convinience as you pointed out. But if your willing to pay extra for convinience then why you bothered about saving a few bob in the first place? Weve seen all the conversations about ms wont do to help out a small percentage. Yet thats all these reasons affect.

And im sure it wasnt missed but ill add it here again. Even when talking physical vs physical.... xbox games cost more then pc games. So you cant expect them to be as cheap.

Im sure for every person willing to wait (which is an inconvinience) theres some willing to sell on ebay. And even make a PROFIT! At times. Not all times but just to show the trade in values you can get. Which im sure would never happen in a steam based. As you dont sell on. Or if you do you aint gonna make.

It's not as if Steam games are universally cheaper all the time, across the board. But if you only ever buy when there's a sale on, who cares? Since that's the only time I ever buy, the price of the game when I'm not buying it is kind of irrelevant to me.

Honestly, I don't know why that is -- why console games cost more for the same game than the PC version. I'd expect that distinction to disappear over time. No idea why it's still around, actually.

Trade ins may still work, but it's not universally cheaper to do trade-ins than digital. And you don't have to deal with the post not delivering it one day, or them showing up when you aren't there to answer the door and now you have to go to the depot just to get your physical copy. And you don't have to worry about whether someone's gonna send you a bogus disc or whathaveyou from Ebay. Granted, that's less of a concern these days, but you could still get ripped off.

Personally, I find buying games digitally to be cheaper and more convenient than buying games physically -- most of the time. There are some cases where that's not true, but that doesn't really bother me one way or the other. If you like the physical copy, that's cool. enjoy it. I'm not trying to take that away from you (although the gaming companies will, eventually). All I'm saying is that the digital version really isn't as bad as people paint it to be. There might be advantages, depending on one's perspective, to one version or the other, but digital is not the end of the world the way some (not you) have painted it.

I completley agree with you. Its not bad. But there are both pros and cons. For instance. If I was a bit more flush. Of course id rather download the game early and have it unlocl at 00.00 on release date. if I could afford to not care.

Personally I believe in a wireless future. But nows not the time it should be 100% theyve gota lower them prices of games already online to make people think they will actually save. There not even as cheap. I cant believe they sat round the table and said. Yeh. Customers will go for this. The average gamer may or may not be the sharpest tool going. But most people understand cost saving. And you gota show them why your taking away their main way of getting games for less. Not hope they trust you and basically say tough to their concerns. No business model should have that in. It makes it even worse that theyve been selling games online at 60 usd a pop for 12 month. More then some disk release prices. Theres no current reason for the customers to believe them. Not forgetting they didnt have to enforce it. Could have gave choice. I mean technically they have choidlce at the moment. And online is dearer.

Im sure itl happen. And i think it will hapen on this gen. But theyve definitley pushed it back a bit. Big balls to the next company that tries this. They may even be able to prove it. But people will automatically see it as bad after whats gone off.

At least I get to play ryse now and halo lol

All this wireless stuff scares me. I think it's why we're seeing so many cases of autism and such. Between the wireless internet, cell phones, CB radio, and normal radio we've been subjecting our DNA to this stuff for over 100 years and it's catching up to us. I think MS is going to have to win back a lot of folks who are going to be against them for trying all this in the first place. My friend was a diehard 360 fan and she's getting ready for a ps3 and ps4.

Wireless internet does not cause autism. The fact that an entire generation is having their children when they're 5-10 years older than their parents is FAR more likely to be the issue.

PC Games and console games have been the same price for several years. Around five years ago, give or take, you could get the same PC game for $39.99 and then they decided for some reason to make them the same price. Then PC usually gets a really bad port (as in not optimized for PC, no option to change PC controls, low res textures, etc.) of the game, with some exceptions.

I think if you're going to do digital distribution, it should be mandatory that you can deliver the game to all who want at top speed. I can dl at 15mb here. It is possible for me to download a full DVD in 30ish minutes. Took me 12 @#$%^ing hours to download a 2-3 dvd game due to their servers and this was NOT during a heavy load time for their server - game had been out nearly 10 months at that time. That kind of stuff is unacceptable.

The company servers are always going to be the issue. they're going to need massive facilities just full of servers if they go all digital.

It depends on how you look at it.
That cant happen without a backdoor access. Programs don't just come and allow themselves admin privelages. I think better care and teaching of the risks of going to untrusted sources would benefit more. Especially those calls claiming to see virus on your pc.
Its usually some diet tip or free sex advert that leads to this kind of stuff.
It would be much harder to hack kinect from the other end. Ms dont allow unsigned code to run on their xbox which they do on a pc if you just click allow. And any hack allowing unsigned code on the xbox from the past has only been able to implement the use of unsigned code via the user doing it on their end.

Its not impossible. But highly improbable.

Then again in technology what is impossible?

It's a piece of cake to hack PS3's and 360's. They're basically PC's. I'm not hacking savvy but I hacked and modded my PS1-2 and 3 to be able to chat actively online without consequence. Every time they update you have to raise the bar and do something new. These console hackers are very good and extremely smart. Both systems will be hacked in no time.

Possible or not, you can bet this will be the very first thing hackers try to do when the get thier hands on one. You know they're just salvation at the challenge.

Hmmm. Most hackers would probably think they dont have much of a chance so wouldnt bother. Theyll go straight for unsigned code but I doubt theyll go for remote activation. They have to find an exoloit to see what they can do with it
