Interesting article on new xbox

Every time MS offers a free game it's the bottom of the barrel that they couldn't offload cheap in marketplace.

I don't think Assassin's Creed 2 or Crackdown or Dead Rising 2 are exactly what I'd call bottom of the barrel games.

True but you can get them for next to nothing used on amazon. If anything they should give xbox live points towards a future purchase on live, i'd rather have those.

You're getting a free Xbox One game and considering they said ASAP in 2014, it's a fair bet it'll be a good title seeing as there aren't a whole ****load of games announced so far.

Its not a bad deal. However id rather have it on time. But alas... these things happen. Rather have it working properly and delayed then not working at all. Being in the UK im not so unlucky anyways. Can you imagine the backlash if they released it and it didnt recognise peoples voices.

Louis CK said it best, "Everything is awesome and nobody is happy."

It sounds like people would rather pay $500 for a game system that only plays games vs. $500 toward a game system that does a lot more that you have the choice of utilizing. It's the first i've seen so much whining over getting added value.

I don't always use kinect, but sometimes it is fun to use. And the voice recognition can be cool at times when you don't want to use the controller. However if it's late at night and everyone's asleep you don't want to be yelling, "XBOX, PLAY MOVIE." Hehhe....

The thing is most of us only want a game system. the xbox has so much crap nobody wants it's not whining it's showing what gamers really want. I don't want a system with motion tracking, a dashboard full of bs, or have to talk to the thing. I just want something that plays games. If i wanted to deal with that other crap i'd buy a better computer. They really want it to be a value sell us a bare bones one without all this crap.

^ this. I have a Kinect for the current gen. I only got it because Best Buy had an insane sale price for it before Christmas last year. I've used it all of 5 times. It's in my closet right now sitting on a shelf and will most likely sit there indefinitely unless that killer app we've been waiting for comes out. As for the XB1, if Microsoft decides to sell the console without the Kinect, and drops the price to something comparable to the PS4, then I would definitely consider getting one.

The really sad part is that collecting old game systems is suddenly getting more expensive because folks our age, and even my friend's 8 year old, want the old systems that just play games. I wish i'd gotten a kinnect for my shelf when they were cheap, suddenly they're way out there.

I'll bet you just want a cell phone that only makes calls. Screw that GPS, texting, and internet smartphone apps crap, right?

Whilst I think I get what you saying. Hes saying he wont use the kinect. He probably uses gps text internet browsing etc. So the point isnt really valid. He gets to choose the extras on his phone. And isnt charged extra for a manditory addon device. (A physical one)

Personally It doesnt bother me. Ill have the kinect for the odd party downstairs. Im willing to pay the price even if it means something ill hardly use as I still dont think its bad considering my ps2 was 300+ all them years ago so its not too bad an increase. My issues were solved when they stopped manditory online connection and game to console bonding.

Although it was a very minor inconvenience its nice that kinect is no longer manditory. Most of the time the xbox is in the bedroom. Theres no room for kinect to work and id have more wires to hide in the wall and an extra shelf to fit. Like I said I wouldnt have minded though if I did have to. Just a bit of a bonus.

Everyone demonizes this new kinect before they even really know what it's capable of. The Xbox one is a fresh start with new technology and a new kinect. While stuff may not be announced really now, who knows what could happen later.

I heard there's even talk of games that will scan your face and transfer it onto your characters skin. Now that would be wicked.

Can already do that on my 3DS and Wii U. While it may be cartoony, I would never want to play a game where my 'face' is what I'm going to be looking at. Besides, my face wouldn't look good on a female character.

Female characters in video games? What will they think of next...

Actually i do which is why i have a tracphone. No gps crap or internet. Well it gets the net but i never use it. I have absolutely no use for a smart phone. Again if i want to go online i'll do it from home. I don't plan on buying a smart phone until there is no choice, not when i can get a 10.00 tracphone with the features i want. I do text like mad though.

Touche'! :D

I think many forget though on the flip side that PS4 is also a multi-talented system that is capable of a bunch of different things, BUT they don't appear to be advertising it as such.

I think what's great about the XB1 is the options. You don't have to use them, but they are great additions. I don't think we've seen the full potential of the Kinect yet. It's a great way to play some of the games out there and I'll bet they're working on fully integrated Kinect/controller games where you use both as part of the game experience. What's great about having it all to begin with is you won't get nickel and dimed for that technology later when that next great game comes around.

I admit, I do not use my 360 Kinect for most applications, but i'm glad it's there because there are some fun and engaging games that are worth having it for. With the XB1 Kinect being even more advanced i'm looking forward to seeing what software they're going to be developing for it.
