interessting Galactica 1980 Helmet

Dude... what about the thread topic didn't register? LOL! :D

Actually it's really kind-of disappointing. As a "slapped together" helmet to meet a crushing deadline, it doesn't even have the style of the original G-80 Daggit helmets. Its just a motorcross bucket with stuff glued on. If you take the bird off of it, it could have been in just about any show... Airwolf, M.A.N.T.I.S., Knight Rider, Salvage 1, you name it.

It doesn't have much to tie it to Galactica... even Gal 80... except that it's tan.

IMO its a little less than impressive. And come to think about it, that's probably why nobody remembers it that much.

I find myself longing for something with just a little more style. Something that looks like, or gives the impression that, SOMEBODY cared about the design stylings of the show.

Its a good find for someone, to be sure, its amazing all the stuff that keeps turning up from the show(s), but its gonna be a VERY bored day when I consider adding a replica to my collection.

I got to see this close up today. Not only does it have the ubiquitous (and obligatory?) Saturn V nozzles on it, a large chunk of the side pieces are from the equally well used 1/24th scale Harrier kit. And the screen mesh looks darn close to that fabric screen mesh they used on ST:TOS for the wall/desk intercom units.

Well, Apogee was heavily involved with the props for the pilot and Ice Planet Zero. Wouldn't be surprised if they made the facemasks with the available parts and then they were cannibalized for the helmet.

That fabric mesh comes out of old stereo speakers, right?
