Not sure if this post is more appropriate here or in the general modeling section but...
I recently got one of these Interactive R2D2s for my kids and he's a lot of fun! And although the details are fairly accurate, the "newness" just doesn't fit with SW universe. So... I hit him with a bunch of acrylic paint, mostly slapping it on with a paint brush, then wiping the excess with a soft cloth.
Here are the colors I used:
Panel edges/seams: medium grey (to add depth)
Panel recesses: mushroom (for "dirtiness")
Bottom of feet: nutmeg brown (mud and dirt)
"Scratches" on blue parts: silver
Rust stains: mixture of bright orange and nutmeg brown
Just some simply distressing like this turns this toy into a decent display piece. Too bad he's so small, but when he's wheeling around with lights and sound, he's so enjoyable to interact with you almost forget how little he is.
Kind regards,
Magnoli
