Indy coming to Blu-Ray this fall

I guess my point is that a lot of these characters, Indy included, work better with big holes in their stories where the viewer can insert their own ideas into the character.

This makes the audience feel more involved and attached. Things like the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles really hurt that. You have to be VERY careful with treasured characters and recently that seems to have all gone out the window.

Do I ever wonder what happened to the Ghostbusters after the second film? Sure, but I don't want a movie about it.

Yeah I'm with you bro on that.

Sometimes less is more!

Oh I know it's about money. I just hate how all of these great characters are killed because now audiences need to know EVERY ASPECT of their entire life. Ugh. :(

....you say on a site devoted to scrutinizing every microscopic detail of the films we love :lol
Seriously though, we're the problem. We voted with our wallets every time a new scrap of information came out on our beloved franchises and created this depressing mess where every ounce of mystique is wrung out of our heroes.

Agreed. We're the problem. :thumbsup

The thing I like about all this scrutiny though is that nobody it right or wrong when it comes to a character's history or future so everyone gets their own unique satisfaction based on how they see them. Then they release something that gives a definite "right and wrong" and without fail hurts the character in the eyes of many fans.

Speak for yourselves, fellas. I've only seen the original three Indy films. But I did get that nifty free coaster with the set! :)

Gotta say, I was a sucker and saw CS on opening night. In honesty it didn't suck, but the characters were wrong. I put it on the same level as TOD. There are moments in all four films I do enjoy but only two of them are legitimately good IMO.

Eh, I've explained my own attitudes on avoiding CS. I know my quirks and I'd just rather not see it and have it be stuck in my brain.

It's like you were talking about. I hate knowing the "right" answer when I like MY answer better. I can never unsee Alien3. Even if I can go back now and watch it and say "Hmm. Director's Cut wasn't awful," I still just don't like the direction it took the story. I actually prefer the Dark Horse Comics stuff that came out (before they retconned all the characters to have new names). Same with the Matrix sequels, the Star Wars prequels and special editions, and so on and so forth.

All of those films put an unsatisfactory (for me anyway) "right" answer in my head and I can't make it go away. I know other people don't have this issue, or don't care, but for me it really does diminish my enjoyment of the original material when I know that what comes next in the story kinda sucks. I'd rather just get a "And they lived happily ever after" or leave it ambiguous like "But that...is another tale..."

I've learned from those "can't unsee it" experiences, and now I just avoid stuff if I'm concerned it'll reduce my enjoyment of the originals.

Cat toy for me and even my cat has enough taste not to go near it! :lol

CS doesn't even feel like it was directed by Speilberg. Even in the opening shots, before there's any dialogue, it just feels like a B-list director, or like the movie is being made for kids and not an adult audience. That's my main problem with it. All the other stuff, Mutt, the aliens, all that could have worked if the direction was better.
