Indiana Jones - Golden Fertility Idol - New Sculpt

...here are a few more images with HERO comparisons.

I may make a few more revisions after this but I think it's pretty close now.

Let me know if I missed anything!

I am comparing to the best screen images I could find at the highest res.

Wow, dude, you have nailed that completely. I think it is safe to say you have the definitive idol there. Congratulations on you work. My hats off mate

Looks like the top teeth come strait down on your reference pics and yours protrude forward a bit

Thanks for the interest and observation.

I looked again at all my reference images and think I am good with the shape and form of the teeth.

If you are looking at the side views of the GOLD idol as the comparison, please keep in mind that the image is clipped from overexposure and reflection and does not really show the true shape details.

There are other Idols supposedly from the original source that show the teeth as "very" pronounced and jutting out which I think is not accurate based on the PS images tho I agree that it can "look" that way in some image angles.

Have a look at my next post and let me know thoughts.

thanks!

This project is all about fine detail. I appreciate everyone looking so close. I know this prop is “idolized “. ; ).
I will check your observation again but I do think the difference is in the camera distortion.

The perspective and lens distortion is incredibly difficult to overcome and make sense of. I have to correct for the distortion and check photographically to see if I am close.

The front image at the start of this thread was made with a much closer camera lens perspective and shows everything lining up very nicely. Since then I have refined and adjusted to get even closer.

The exact perspective is very hard to duplicate hand held. A slight twist or angle of the camera changes the distortion quite a bit. Camera distance and orientation make the head look huge and the body look tiny or fat or slim.

I can only compare to the most “flat” images available. The longer screen shots have less distortion. Tho some are very confusing at first.
I will post some reasesrch images shortly to illustrate.

In the meantime. If there is interest in this project, please spread the word. I have some great ideas for producing replicas but would need enough interest to achieve the quality I would want.

Getting close to finishing. Just need to refine the surfaces and polish it up.

I envision a metal body open back with “glass” eyes.
Resin body with glass eyes
Resin with covered eyes “ Belloq”
Gold plate is possible but there may be better alternatives.

Spread the word. !
My envision is a metal body, open back with real glass eyes only, a resin body over time has some shrinkage and most plating have a tendency to show peeling and small bubbles, etc.

I agree, tho some resins are better than others.

I like the metal body concept and think I can get a thin metal body, similar to what a beaten metal figure would have been if the Idol was real.

I think both can be offered. The resin can be made to accept glass eyes like the PS which can be plated over or coated.

Could be some very interesting ways to finish.

The prop store idol appears to be looking slightly upward !

I didn't match the camera angle exactly. It is not that easy to get it exactly correct. Camera angle, perspective, lens distortion... very hard to replicate exactly.

The more I look at the idols, it looks as though it's just eyes are slightly looking or tilting more forward especially the right eye. The prop idol is somewhat looking upward, just MOP.

If you are talking about just the "eyes" , I added the "brown eyes" in photoshop and are just estimated in place.

And you are correct. The eyes are not even on the propstore idol.

For the body/head angle this side view shows how close the sculpt and HERO are... keeping in mind that the camera angles are not "exact" and therefore some dimensions are distorted slightly.
