Interest Indiana Jones - "FERTILITY IDOL" (Made from Casting from Original Mold)

The original is pretty shiny here and there :)

Not really. It's a film shot, not natural lighting. There are Bright spots, but that is the intense lighting on stage. There are some dark spots, but that is from the reflection of the pedestal underneath it. The idol I have, has a mirror like coating where you can see actual shapes, not just light and dark. So, mine isn't very accurate.

I think some variation of the duller finish will be good.

UPDATE:

So, I found a foundry that can cast the Idol in Bronze, hollow, real Gold-Plating, and a wall thickness of 2 - 3mm, which will allow the glass eyes!

They'll be able to cast it with the eyes cut out, and a hole in the bottom to allow me to insert the glass eyes for installation!

Since it's being cast with a thin wall, height shrinkage will be a maximum of 3mm!

I'm preparing to send an Idol to them by the end of this week, and they will send me a sample to inspect their work.

So, this is awesome news! It will be REAL GOLD-PLATED METAL, with glass eyes!!!

I don't want to get too excited yet, until I am actually holding it in my hands to see if the quality is up to our community standards, but lets keep our fingers crossed!

Count me interested. Depending on price, of course but WOW!!!!!!

I've always thought it was similar to a gold leaf texture and sheen. Just makes sense to me the Peruvian natives would not be able to achieve a perfect finish with what they had available to them.

I agree. A bit more shiny in Place where it's been touched more. A bit more "polished" if you will.

UPDATE:

I'm casting two Idol models for the foundry right now. One with eyes cut out (glass eye version), and one with eyes (Belloq version)!

I'm going to have them cast both as samples for me to inspect and also show off to you guys when I get them back. So, you will be able to see what you are getting before production begins.

I should have the prototype models shipped to the foundry by next week, and the samples back a few weeks after.

I'll also have a price after I get the sample Idols made, since I'm still in negotiations.

I know some are a little skeptical about this being made in bronze, but the reason I want this in metal, is because the gold-plate will be a real gold-plate and will last a lot longer, if not forever. Gold-plating on plastic does not last very long. I went to a prop party last year where someone brought their Sideshow Idol, and the gold-plate was already rubbing off (not flaking)!!! Actually rubbing off like it was makeup!!! Other complaints I've seen was with their Gobler Idol, where the resin was still degassing, and made the gold-plate start to bubble and flake off.
So, with a metal Idol, we won't have this problem, since we can put a real gold-plate on it! Fingers crossed that the foundry can make this happen! The pictures I posted earlier of the gold statues is the foundry's work. They have a fine attention to detail, and should be able to apply this to the wax sclupts as they are doing the lost wax method of casting!

Im all in on the idea, the only concern is the price. Bronze work sounds pricy.
Any ballpark on that?
Thanks!

It's going to be a lot cheaper than the resin and gold-plate version I was going to do before through the guy in California! I'm not sure yet on price, but I'm hoping to keep it around $400 - $450 at the most! So, it may be cheaper, but depends on how much shipping will be from China. Considering the bronze castings will be hollow, the weight will be minimal along with shipping cost.
