Ikea Detolf Shelf Sale

I couldn't figure it out either, until i thought about it. He drilled holes in the wood and just made the bars farther apart, I'm guessing. Would still love to see pics.

I dunno... they are pretty close to the glass. Most I think you could gain is about 1/8"... and the shelves themselves would be dangerously close to slipping off. Maybe a different case and not the Detolf?

But does that really buy you anything? There's only maybe 1" on either side before you hit the glass. The bust has to fit within the confines of the glass, plus it has to be able to get past the door - the hinge of which, is about 1" inboard of the side. Unless you put the door on after the busts are in the cabinet.

But forget the door issue, let's say the cabinet is 24" wide. The glass shelf is already 23" wide. Does it make a difference if the support is 22" wide or 23 3/4" wide? Even if you're replacing the inlcuded shelves with wider ones, you're still constrained by the inside dimensions of the case.

The real issue with the cabinet is shelf height (which cannot be adjusted),not shelf width (which doesn't make a difference, as each shelf is already approaching the maximum inside width).

I was able to get the paint to stick, but it's too Cold here in Southern California so I'll have to wait till tomorrow for it to Dry completely...

please let me know how it works for you... even with a layer of primer I could not get paint to stick to these...

Our two LA Ikea stores only had 14 and 16. Showed up at 11:00am at the first and they were ALL gone. I had fun watching two Ikea employees trying to move the floor model down off of the display and almost dropping it on the ground. Glass and concrete floor? Don't mix!

Drove 17 miles to the next Ikea after they said they would hold two for me. Arrived and they were nowhere to be found.

I just think Ikea was closing out their existing stock and never really replenished their stock for this so called SALE. I wasn't to pleased with the Ikea Sale!

On my cabinet it has the 4 metal support poles on each corner which can be drilled out to move the shelf screws.
I had moved the top shelf height down to 17" to fit my larger busts.

I got my glass cabinets at the Jysk store & it has the same dimensions/look as the Ikea version.
The cabinets are identical with the only difference being the way the shelves are mounted.

Ahhhh...well, that explains it. Ikea's version should have had a way to make the shelf height adjustable, as well. But, as it stands, the supports are just welded wire :unsure.

I was able to successfully repaint my Detolf Cabinet with these Paints:

(Just make sure to give Plenty of time to allow the parts to Dry!!
Paint a Test piece of Wood and once you think it has had enough time to
dry check your test piece instead of touching the Detolf Pieces
:) )

I only had one minor touch up and once that is completely Dry, I will assemble my Cabinet and post Photos.

(I hope my photos are not as dark as they look on my Monitor, the original Digital pics looked very clear showing the Gloss Black paint)
