Hey all!

I was hoping someone can help me with information on the Icons Star Trek Klingon Battle Cruiser. My understanding is there were only a limited # produced. I am trying to get an understanding of the value of these and their history. Were they studio scale supposedly?

Any information is greatly appreciated. I am looking fo rthe Captain Cardboard thread, so if anyone has that link I would appreciate it too!

They were cast off the secound Klingon ship made, the one I do believe that AMT used for thier blueprints for thier model. I also dont think they made a full run eather.
I have watched them go as high as 800 to 1000 and as low as 278. When Captian Cardboard came out with his, it kinda shot thiers, but there has been a kit of it floating around long before both of them...Kev

Last I heard, they had done or only got out less then 1000, but I may be wrong....Now I say this much due to the fact, one went off on ebay with a number of 997.....Kev

I'm highly doubtful that Icons cranked out anywhere near 1000 of these things. If they did, the current owners are really keeping their D7 replicas to themselves.

A Google search turned up one.

Also, you dont know if they used the plates in the correct order. They may have just reached into the box and pulled some out...Kev

Hey

Well, I know Icons certaintly did not produce all 1000. I think around 25-50 were actually produced. Most were given to employees who did not recieve paychecks as a "gift". I believe only 10 were actually sent out to waiting customers, but some of those had paint/fabrication issues. Most were numbered as artist proofs and given off with the plaque and case. Their stand/base was supposedly to be the klingon symbol which I had the master proof for but sold years ago. I dont know if any made it out with this kind of base or not.
The display case was the kind that could either be table or or wall mounted. I have seen one of these models in person and they are really, really nice. I have seen pics with Daren Dochterman holding one. They talk about the ship in the issue of the "Vault" which was shipped wth all Vader lightsabers. Anyway, if you had asked this question during my Icons crazy-collecting fit, I could have provided you with a more detailed expose but, alas, I sold most of my icons stuff. If you have any more questions, feel free to email me and I can try to help you out!

The one hanging on my wall is #28 if that helps. Got it from Entertainment Earth back in 1999. I remember when I called in my MC#, the fellow on the phone said it had been on display in their office / store but they would ensure it was complete before shipping it too me. The display base (which I choose to hang on the wall) has the Klingon style emblem stand.

One thing that Icons did right was packaging as everything I ever ordered from them arrived without damage.

If this is true on the small run, then they did not number them correct at all...Kev

I remember a guy on Yourprops (perhaps a member here) having a D-7 from Icons...he has the #25 if I remember correctly. He should have the #2 but asked to Icons to have the #25 to match with his Icons Klingon Disruptor set !!! Also, don't forget that some plaques were kept away by CEOs so.....it's still difficult to say how many were exactly made :-(

I also remember an old evilbay auction where Latta was selling a broken (or unfinished !!) D-7, stating that "less than 60 were made by Icons". To create that piece, they used the silicon mold taken at the time of the Smithsonian's original Star Trek Klingon ship miniature restoration.
And here is a pic showing the Icons prototype on left (one ton paint job with painted details) and #1 on right, with two tones paint job and decals details. As you can see, the "regular" issue shows the Klingon pedestal logo.

Icons--ugh the name makes me physically ill- those clowns took $3500 from me and sent me nothing.

Yeah, I was one of those suckers who paid in advance for an Icons Jupiter 2. Live and learn.

I've twice run into James Latta at a public event, and on both occasions it was all I could do to keep from taking a swing at him. Alas, punching people out is not really my thing (Latta's already inconvenienced me enough without tacking on an aggravated assault charge).

It was fun to glare at him though. He had no idea who the angry-looking guy was; he just knew it was someone he'd stiffed and I could tell it made him nervous to know he'd been recognized.

They were going to sub-contract the B9 project to me, but could never come up with the deposit required to start work.

ICONS took me for $4,800 back in the day... & Latta actually lied to me! I can understand a company going under because of their incompetence, but to lie knowing your going under just to get "free $$$" is what I just can't stand!!! Now a days there are those Latta lovers who defend him & look upon him as innocent... I wonder if they lost $$$ & were lied to by this scumbag how they would feel. I WON'T pay for any pre-order items as a result of my dealings with Latta & ICONS :angry

Wow, I knew those guys were a little shady way back when but I never knew they were downright criminal!! Anyway, not to change the subject or anything (maybe there should be an icons horror story thread) but I have all the parts for the D-7 cast from the mold Greg Jein made of TOS filming model when they did that DS9 retro episode.

I have a D-7 of unknown origin as well. Oddly enough it has copyright info stamped into the bottom of the resin. And the "windows" on the ball and neck are tiny discs of photoetched bras that are glued on. (The windows on the cap were sanded off, so I have no idea if the rectangular windows were relief.)

I'll try to post photos. I know that it is not a Jim Key and it is not a Capt. Cardboard - beyond that.......
