Hello all!
So, I posted a thread a while ago about my Abe Sapien sculpture, and then fell off the face of the earth. Sadly, I haven't gotten to Abe since the last post- finding a job, moving, all that other life stuff got in the way. However, I did start a new project for a client, and am fairly excited about it. Thought I'd share it with you guys and gals.
He asked me to create this mask for him:
Here is the finalized sculpture. The horns are separate for molding purposes.
Rough Horn shape and placement (the horns need work)
Mold making fun time! (ignore the time stamp, I hate my camera)
Filled in most of the undercuts- I didn't know how far I wanted the brow or the chin in, so I let those have some pretty heavy undercuts. I decided to have a clay wall at the bottom so I could have a good base for the fiberglass mothermold when it comes time.
"Beauty" Coat. Let me start off by saying- I HATE brush up molds, look at all that wasted silicone just dripping off the sides. So sad. Not to mention, I was dumb enough not to read everything about the rebound material before hand. It said it was brush on silicone, so I figured it would stay up a lot better than it did.
Several layers later with registration keys. I had to wait for the stuff to thicken up by itself to try to get rid of those undercuts with the cheeks and eyes, it was a nightmare.
I decided it was too ugly, and needed to figure out a way to smooth out the silicone you can see I had smoothed half of one side to see how much better it looks.
All it takes is a chip brush, some alcohol, and a little elbow grease!
Silicone Done- hopefully I will have more pictures in the next few days of the mother mold/ the casting in the next few days... instead of the next few months. =P
Thanks for looking guys! I am hoping to make the lower jaw moveable, I know a little of the hardware I need to go about doing that, but if you guys have any suggestions, or ways you've done something like that, the information would be much appreciated.
