Hey guys (and gals) why isnt my x-wing helmet not selling for $225? Can anyone add some input on what would have to be done to improve its desirability?

Maybe its just the picture but it looks too white and could be weathered more to make it more desirable.

Apart from that it looks pretty good all round. Might just be a bit slow on the Junkyard.

Cheers Chris.

Either the Junkyard is slow, or the desire for Star Wars items has died. I couldn't even sell a MR solo blaster (and it was priced 75% cheaper than new)

I'm guessing from the double negative, that it is selling then? ;) :lol j/k

The description in the JY doesn't state which helmet kit it is (DP, RA, if any). Without any specifics other than it being made of styrene, $225 might be too high of a price.

An RA helmet will usually bring in a decent amount, especially over a no-name kit. Sometimes, you just pay for the name (though Richie does do some sweet work). Even a DP will bring in more money than an ebay special.

Or maybe, noone's in the market for an x-wing helmet (plus I don't see the pic in your JY thread - I get all red Xs (but that could be my job's firewall))

Anyway, those are just some things to consider...

Try photos without the flash. A great friend of mine once told me to always photo my props out of doors but not in direct sunlight. It just shows the truth of the object better than flash photography.

As for lack of interest, it could also be that MR has announced an Xwing helmet......people might just be waiting to decide after they see pics of MR's. Just a thought.

It's TAX time. Most likely no one has the money to spend.

Maybe Its because MR is going to make a x-wing T-65 helmet

It looks rather small to me.

Not knowing the size of the helmet... it could be the bulkyness of the base that is making it appear smaller. Just a thought.

I'm not much of an X-Wing helmet fan - like the pure white, only seen in the hangar, helmets - but this looks like a pretty clean cast.

A name and a history can definitely sell... but I do think that there is a recession... less and less SW props sell these days.

I was going to say that as well- a lot of people may be waiting to see the MR version first

I wish I had $250 to spend. That's a big chunk of change in my opinion.

And you basing that on what? There is nothing else in the shot.

Looks like a decent job to me.

I have noticed that there seems to be little interest in replicas recently that would have flown out of the door a year or two ago. I don't think you are doing anything wrong, I have had to let go of props at silly prices that were really sought after in the past.

Perhaps the new TV series will help with prop values....

I think it's not really a matter of it not being a quality replica but as someone mentioned above its tax season plus I'm still working off Christmas season credit card debt. There's been lots of stuff in the Junkyard that's caught my eye (i.e. your Trooper mannequin) but I'm just not in a position to purchase yet.

im sure you could sell it in the junkyard, may not get the price you are looking for though.
slash the price a bit if you need to sell it in the JY or put it in storage for a bit until a time when more people may be interested.

I have no idea what these typically go for but ive seen some people try to sell fairly common things in the JY for high prices, and then they seem suprised when noone is interested.

Remember, just because someone buys something for $xxx doesnt mean they will always get $xxx when they sell it. I hate when people say , i paid 500- you can have it for 400- when the item was overpaid for to begin with...

It's not a matter of it being a desireable helmet, because it is. I think about picking one up everytime I see one...which is quite a bit, and that's the problem. I'm in no hurry to buy the helmet becasue they are so abundant so I'm in no hurry. If one is offered for a very low price, I'd be more inclined to buy it now.

Got to agree with everything that's been said. Plus, the fun is in the painting. Personally that's why I'd be more inclined to buy a kit and do it myself rather than pay for the finished product. Looks great though. :D
