I need help making an Asteroid

I need to make an Asteroid for a diaroma. I will be using pink insulation foam stack glued together.

What do I use to glue the foam together?

Gorilla glue?
Great stuff spray insulation?
3M spray adhesive?

I want the best bond and still be able to carve the block of foam.

Thank you for any help.

Gorilla glue is what most people use for pink board. Just make sure it doesn't expand too much by putting weights on top of it.

I've seen some impressive works using expanding foam

I have seen some also,:love but just a little to small for what I am making.

Mine will be about 3' long and 20'' wide. Useing nothing but expanding foam to make one this big would be WAY to expensive. ( if you are talking about Great Foam.)

Do I rough sand the smoothness off of the face of the pink foam so the glue will stick better?
My main concern is the glue not drying in the middle of the foam pieces.

I used that foam adhesive caulk one time and it didn't dry in the middle.

In that case I would simply, rough out a hollow core with cardboard and tape, and coat it with expanding foam...

As for what glue, I generally suggest people just use watered down Elmer's Glue or wood glue... I have heard of people also using 3M Super 77 but a few years back they changed the formula and it now melts the foam if you use too much, mist lightly from a decent distance, there are other 'craft' spray adhesives at art stores that are foam safe and will work as well...

I did a test with wood glue and gorilla glue.

I glued two pieces of foam that were smooth and two pieces that were roughed up each with the two kinds of glue.

The wood glue didn't hold very well and seemed to not dry in the middle of the foam.

The gorilla glue dryed through out but I was able to pull apart the smooth surface test. The roughed up foam test held great. I still haven't been able to pull it apart.

GORILLA GLUE ON ROUGHED UP FOAM SURFACES IS THE WAY TO GO.

depending on what oyu're after a piece of coral looks awesome - all you need to do is paint... Just sayin'
