How much value is added to a Lucas signed prop?

I had two of my prop sabers signed by George Lucas about 2 months ago. I am not selling these but just wondered how much added value these would get?

priceless in sentimental value, since you are not selling it. the only added value would be from yourself, sentimental values knowing that you met george, and the whole experience.

I take it theres some monetory value added as well as the yingyangfairydust you mention. :)

I`d like to know myself.

Also I like signatures. But I dont like it when they sign say a nice Vader lid across the forehead or over the back of the dome - whats wrong with inside? Imagine Ainsworth signed his stormtrooper armour across the front of the chest - it would look like a pair MariaCareys signed underpants. SIgs like that look cheap IMHO even when signed by someone substantial. (not saying AA or Mariah are substantial) :wacko

Does inyourface signatures add more value or less than a more subtley placed sig?

I think as a general rule unless it comes with a "real" C.O.A. (such as from a reputable company, or studio) then a signature does not add anything, and if the seller can't prove it is a real signature it actually can lower the price. There are always acceptions but that is true for signed pictures, storts equipment and autographed comic book.
You still may get someone willing to pay a few bucks more just to be able to say that have something that was signed, but un-authenticated signatures are generally only valuable to the person who got the signature.

i got a couple signed items myself, the one im most pleased with is a 12 inch chewbacca that when i read in the price guides i found out they made the 96 year boxes, and kept them, but a rework of the figure pushed the release date into 97. but they used up the 96 boxes first. and according to the price guide at that time, one of those was valued at 500 bucks. and thats one o managed to get. now knowing i had a valueable piece, i had peter mayhew sign it on the inside flap right above the rebel insignia.

to me thats my most prized piece. and of course i have pics i had signed in person of nimoy and shatner, takaei, and delancie, and a few others over the years.

got a con im going to in sept. in houston and levar burton is goin to be there, i might get his sig too.

You have to be careful though. Sometimes signing a rare item or package will actually lower the value. Back during the baseball card boom of the early 1990s some people were having cards signed that by themselves were worth alot only to find out that dealers didn't want to buy them because they were "damaged" or "no longer mint".

yeah i know, that can happen. i found that info out and to me, i didnt care, im not selling it anyways. i did get a few offers on it back then, but no way, its MINE!! lol

Here’s the formula I use for autographs on props…

Original value x 1.5 / 2

Save a prop, sign a plaque. :cool

I don't know why people automatically think signatures would add value to a prop. I would never buy a prop with a signature on, but I'm sure there are a few people who would, but each to their own.

I mean again, sentimental value comes in it for me, I wouldn't mind getting a prop signed myself, as I wouldn't intend to sell it, but I certainly wouldn't buy a prop that a fan has got signed themselves, as it doesn't do anything for me.

thats what i do, i dont buy anything already signed, i take it and get it signed in person. like said above tho, i know it will degrade, so to speak the value in most cases, but theyre for me anyways. i dont plan on sellin them.

A scribbled prop is worth less to me. I never cared about autographs in general, much less paying for them! :confused

I totally agree. I never understood why people pay $100 for an autographed picture or buy a signed prop that they themselves didn't get signed. For me I would rather have a signed prop rather than a prop with a signed plaque. The reason being is that since these are not screen used props, the only "value" they have is the cost to reproduce them, so I think that having Lucas sign a lightsaber or Jeremy Bulloch sign a Boba Fett bucket gives more meaning to that particular non-screenused prop.

Yeah, a signature doesn't add anything for me either. If were going to get something signed, I'd take a pic of them signing it and sign on a matte that surrounds the item or the inside of the box, etc.

I think personally if someone like GL that does not normally sign autographs would see one for sale (not implying you are), it might lead him to not sign in the future thinking people are only in it for profit.
