Hoth Luke & Tauntaun build for a 4 yr old.

I know I know, it's been done ;-) I've just had a desire to do one for eons now.

My approach is a combo of butchering the $30 Target Ostrich costume, foam for the rest with the exception of the head which I sculpted in Zbrush and 3D printed. I'd liked to have done an all foam build honestly but I just didn't have the time. The horns I cast from foam from the 3D prints to keep the weight down. Didn't have time to do that for the head too and my biggest concern at the moment is the weight of the head. Currently printing another one that is lower density. The arms are sculpted from foam and the so are the feet, built around an old pair of crocs.

Will update later today.

Done before? Perhaps, but not that I've seen.
Bring it ! :cool I hope this build will be a success.
Will the rest of the family dress up as well? I really liked the snow outfit from the 2nd Lucas film.

Yep, I found a parka for $20 on ebay! Brand new with tags but has white paint stains on the arm, hence the price. Found an awesome vest for my son for $10 too.

Made a model of Luke's headset and printed:

Definitely following.
Hoping to do a similar build next year for one of my nephews.
Looks great so far.
Good luck.

Feet pretty much done. I have a new found respect for anyone that does a lot of work with fur! Complicated, time consuming and messy, not terribly fun!

Hey, think about offering the head and luke's accessory castings? I would love to make this costume for my son next year!

I'll definitely try and get to that rnbudahttp://www.therpf.com/member.php?u=4510! Honestly my intent with this project was to use a foam cast for the head, but I'm new to molding and casting and it didn't go terribly well :) The horns came out OK but the head was kind of an expensive disaster. But I will get back to it when I get some time. As it turns out the 3D print was lighter than I was thinking but still, foam would be better.

rough head paint:

placed on to the neck stump:

TO DO:

-Hot glue the damn head on there
-Trim the fur more
-Get some sporadic fur on the head for a better transition
-FAKE LEGS!

Wowzers that looks awesome! totally looking forward to seeing it come to life! great paint job on the head too, never tried anything like this.

The fur you're using look fantastic and the head looks like it's come out really well (even though you say it was a disaster). This is going to be amazing!

Spent waaaaay too much time on this and need to call it (it being the 31st obviously). I'd liked to have done a slightly better job with the head fur but overall I'm pretty happy with how he turned out.

I might sprinkle some more fake snow on it and will post some shots later of the lad wearing it.

You should be well chuffed with that! Love to see it with the fake rider's legs. And when it's not being worn you could wall mount the bust like in Jabba's palace!

I would say that honestly it came out a little smaller than what I'd envisaged. But he had a blast with it and that's why we do this stuff right? :)

Here's a little vid I put together of him having fun with it. The craziest aspect of it by far was how many people asked me "but how does it move?" haha

Standing ovation.
You can see the success of this project from the look on your sons face.
Thank you for sharing.
