Limited Run Holocron/Kit

Just cut the revised USB pieces. Totally worth it. I'll have the first of the production run completed this weekend, and will be cutting the remainder of the parts I need to send out kits the following week.

Also completed the 1.1 version circuit board, but I may send that back to the drafting table...I may have figured out a reasonably budget way to make it talk.

Good to hear you had a win with the USB :) I would be happy to delay my build (paid if required) if you think the updated 1.1 circuit board with talking option is possible...

Looking forward to seeing the prototype of the "Stolen A" shell with the combination of "Guardian" diffusion and "Gallifrey" circuit"

I am still thinking this would be a killer look... :)

Sorry this isn't the progress report desired.

The last problems with the physical layer are wrung out and I'm ready to ship the first shell kits.

But it is taking longer than I expected to clean up the software. Apparently I got lucky with the prototype. I'm having to tear out most of the program and start from scratch to improve the stability of the capacitive sensor and to get the new "talk" animation I want. It's not that much code in total -- I have a hard limit of 8Kb on that chip -- but I'm slow. Spent most of this weekend figuring out how I'd gotten a "wiggle" at the end of each light pulse.

Will finish up programming over the next week. Work permitting, I'll have the first ones in boxes the following Monday.

(I have at least one set of kit parts with the older USB arrangement. I'll knock five bucks off that for not meeting my aesthetic standards. Kit or assembled, however you want it).

No worries! Will the updated electronics be more then the original price of $90 shipped? Thanks for all your hard work on this!

i second this question.

glad to see your still working at it. with it being so quiet i thought you might have called it quits. glad this is still going to happen! :thumbsup

Please add me to the list for a Stolen A kit with electronics. Thanks.
These look great by the way, glad I found this thread.

Software woes are over. Back to soldering boards -- and the first order of V1.1 boards arrives this weekend (nothing functionally different; just prettier silkscreen and other touch-up).

Unfortunately means I'm going to miss Christmas shipping deadline. I was really expecting to have time off to work on this during the holidays. Instead much of the company is doing overtime hours and even days off are getting cut back. Good we have all that work, but sucks for holiday plans.

Any updates?

Thanks for the update. :thumbsup I'm just glad the project is still a go.

again im not rushing anything. every time i ask is just because i really hope this run happens. this is a EPIC holocron and i really want to add it to my collection. PLUS once you finish this run you know we are going to bully you into making all of us a sith holocron too!! ;)

all teasing aside, this is a must have prop for me, you have done an outstanding job!!:thumbsup

The horror of the holidays is almost over and I've been running off stacks of parts:

Thanks for the update... the parts are looking cool, can't wait to see my completed holocron :)

You ship to the EU as well, or only US?

Yes, but I don't know what it is going to cost to safely ship it.

Actually, there's another issue. Regulations get a little crazy about air-shipping lithium polymer batteries, and also any device containing mercury. I'd have to read up on the shipping and import restrictions for EU and it might end up being one of the more costly shipping options. Unless you can source one or the other locally, or omit the circuit board entirely...

In relation to shipping to Australia, if there are any regulations / restrictions to Australia I am happy if we arrange shipping via slow boat option (Shipping Container) if that is required... it will be a nice surprise for next Christmas! haha

Hmm not unimprotant indeed. :D As I know nearly nothing of electronics I would be needing it finished as much as possible though. I don't know it it is possible to, for instance, add the battery in a later time, so I go out and buy one here?

If possible, could you give me a rough guesstimate of the cost for shipping 2 pieces, legislation aside for now? (We'll tackle that problem when it poses itself.) If possible, put me down for both the Temple A and Stolen A version in the mean while. (The pictures of the different finishes are still inbound right? Or did I miss them by any chance?)

Hahah Timbuktu, much appreciated! :D

You can totally add the battery later. It is standard connector on most of the small lipos -- adafruit, sparkfun, etc. ship them with that connector on them. I'm at work away from my desk but when I get home I can look up the exact connector from my Digikey account (or on the Eagle file...)

As per estimate, I'm hoping to get the USPS fixed-rate small box to work for the kit; that's up to six bucks in the US and about 27 overseas but I've standardized at $5/$25. I haven't figured out the right packing options to protect a fully assembled holo yet; that's the work list for this week.
