Cut a 2' circle out of the fence pickets.
Should be able to get 2 shields out of the 5 fence pickets. (try to get pickets that have similar thicknesses and are all straight (duh))

Attach the posts together
This can be as simple as screwing a board to the back or using the dowel pins with wood glue
I suggest using both methods as the wood slats can separate over time.

you may also want to use a electric sander of some type to thin down the thickness around the rim of the shield
The wood is a bit bigger than the inside of the aluminum channel

Using a hack saw cut the walls of the aluminum channel every half and inch.... it takes awhile
It should take under seven feet of the aluminum to wrap around the shield... but don't cut it off until you put most of in on the shield

be careful to only bend the aluminum away from the back of the channel to avoid kinks in the circle.

when you have more than enough of the aluminum cut and bent you can start attaching it around the shield
as you go tack down the aluminum with some small nails

when you reach the other side cut off the C channel to length and tack down.

paint the shield the background color of whatever hold you are planning on making
when dry mask off and paint in the crest

the first time I painted it I projected the image on it and hand painted it

I suggest using painters tape to mask off the areas you want

I think I'm going to get some iron powder and glue it around the aluminum so it rusts and make it look better...The aluminum is a bit to clean

How about using shoepolish to 'dirty' it up? maybe after giving the aluminum a little beating with a little hammer or something so the shoepolish has something to get into?

I have hammered it ... Shoe polish would work , but I fear it would rub off over time
its not a big issue I'm happy with them and they only cost about $30 to make two

I may take some black and brown spray paint to them and then wipe most of it off

This is awesome, I happen to have a few lengths of fencing piled in the garage, I may have to take a crack at a Falkreath or Morthal

To cut the boards round, what have you done? I saw a video on YouTube using a circular saw attached to a pivot to scribe the circle, but it was a much larger radius.

Great, now I gotta find some way to hang all these at the house cuz good Gods i needs to have. Seriously, great work on these beauties!

there actually pretty easy to hang just screw in some picture hanging hardware into the back... they are pretty heavy though so make it a beefy nail
