Hi! I have boobs and I make...

You're quick, akosipinagpala. ;) May I call you pala? Or what about akosi? Sounds like a Japanese name.
Good luck with finding what you're looking for.

ALOT of very talented as well as beauitful women..I like this thread...:thumbsup My kind of women..keep up the good work.

What is your budget? You can find quality sewing machines in a range of prices from under $200 to many thousands. How often do you plan to use it?

Personally I have a Singer that is a few years old that I use on light-weight delicate fabrics. It's an electronic/programmable one, and it suits my needs for many things. Most people will warn you away from Singer because it is not what it used to be. For heavy duty stuff like leather, vinyl, and denim, I have a 60+ year old Kenmore and a 50+ year old Singer that we call the monsters because they are so dang heavy, but they can sew through 8 layers of denim like a knife through butter. :)

A great option is to get a used machine. You can get a really good machine at a discounted price, and as long as they are serviced properly it can be a great deal.

One of these days I want to get a Janome, but can't bring myself to spend the money for what I want until the 3 machines I have finally die!

I'm sure the other ladies will chime in with preferences and recommendations!

No boobs here! LOL

I have 33 year old Singer 920 and it has seen everything! If it's working fine, why spend a whole lot of $ on something that has a whole lot of stuff you will never use! A good machine needs the following: 1. a good straight stitch 2. a good zig-zag 3. one serpentine stitch (combo straight-zig-zag) 4. a button hole maker 5. blind hem stitch. It's all you need! think about it, how many time are you going to use that little decorative doggy stitch! Once maybe?

My old Singer and Kenmore can only do straight and zig-zag stitches. My mother thought she gave me the accessory pack to the Kenmore, but she didn't, so I'm missing most of the accessories and cams. I can't do buttonholes or sew buttons with either machine.

I bought the newer Singer when I started working with stretch materials and spandex. I wanted to be able to do a stretch stitch. The newer Singer came with a variety of feet and has a buttonhole maker and sews buttons, which saved me a ton of time when I was working on Babydoll last year right before D*con, because I was able to do the buttons so much faster than having to hand-sew.

The new Singer is temperamental and on some days just refuses to cooperate which can be highly stressful. I can take it apart, clean it, re-thread it, but nothing will make it function. :cry If I wait a few days, it'll magically work again.

The older machines almost always work, and will sew through anything, but they prefer to work super-fast. I can't finesse with them. If I'm working on something with tight curves or delicate fabric it can be harder for me to manipulate the fabric with those machines. Though I do prefer to sew zippers with the old machines. They can cut through 8 layers of denim and zipper tape without hesitation.

I really would like to have one machine that reliably sews through delicate fabric as well as heavy duty, instead of juggling three machines. The benefit to three is having each threaded for different colors if the project so requires. :)

I also have a very old hand-held button-holer I've yet to figure out so it's been sitting in a box for a few years. :unsure

Who's man enough.

I think there are at least 5 or 6 topics of discussion along with all the introductions in this thread. But it's okay, ladies are good at multi-tasking! :cool

lol
I have a Toyota Jeans Plus Sewing Machine. Has Auto Tension. That's all I was interested in as I am rubbish at sorting it out and have messed up machines in the past messing about trying to sort it (self taught seamstress and I don't do that reading instructions reet well lol)

I swear a lot while making. Normally because I hate making the pattern first. Once that's done then I just stress about finishing it in time. I end up not sleeping the whole week before costume is needed, sleeping only a few hours here and there. Then somehow find myself with it finished and then after it's had it's outting, I sleep for a couple of days (Hubby and kids allowing :lol

Better late than never! ;)

I'm Vicky, and I have boobs. I'm a wife/stay-at-home mum and I've been costuming for a few years. I'm terribly slow at making things, so even though I have loads of costumes in mind that I'd love to do I've actually only finished a handful of them.

My first completed costume was Jill Valentine from Resident Evil. Not the best picture but I was still carrying a lot of baby weight. :unsure

My favourite costume. Stargate SG-1.

I built the Carter Special myself. It took me nearly five years. Told you I was slow...

This is flightsuit based on the dropship pilots from Aliens. It's not screen accurate but it does the job. As you can see, I lost all that baby weight. :)

And then another Aliens costume. The USCM Service C's based on the one's that Gorman wears on his visit to Ripley's apartment with Burke. Again, not screen accurate but it was fun to wear to the 25th Anniversary dinner we had with some of the cast last year.

And my last completed(ish) costume, Pyramid Head from Silent Hill. I built the head from cardboard. Still some detailing to do but it was well received.

I do have a almost finished version of this -

scooby-velma-20091117-162830.jpg

- but I don't have any pictures of it.

I'm also working on a Quidditch uniform and broom from Harry Potter.

As for crossplaying, I say all the more power to those who do. Why should cool costumes be limited to just what sex you are? The only thing that stops be crossplaying is that the costumes I want to do would look silly with my glasses - I can't wear contacts and I'm too blind to do without them. :(

Ugh, I'd hate it if I couldn't wear contacts; most of my costumes would look ridiculous with glasses. (Have you ever seen Leia or a jedi wearing glasses?) My crossdressing ØS costume (pictured earlier) can do with glasses.

I'd love to see a pic of you as Thelma (that is her English name, right? I think she's called Vera here...) It is an awesome costume. :)

Hi! Good to see other ladies at it ;) I got into prop-making/costuming about 2 years ago and was instantly hooked. Got my first resin kit (Pipboy) from Skruffy and it has just snowballed from there. I love the challenge and I love all the new skills I've learned, especially in the power tool/paint department lol. Still working on the sewing part though -.-

It's an expensive hobby, but worth it in the end!

To any and all of you who will be at Celebration 6 in a few weeks, please come find me at the Dented Helmet/As You Wish Project booth as I am wanting to do some very short interviews with as many ladies from the RPF that we will be posting on our youtube channel as part of something special Art has planned for September. So please come find me and ask for Star Wars Chick, or Kristen Andrews, or Art Andrews or if you see me on the floor and recognize me, please stop me!

Wow ladies, just WOW! I'm so happy that everyone decided to come over and share in the awesome!!

So many great costumes, tips and ideas!!

Just so you know that we WILL be getting a better organized costume section. I know things are helter skelter right now, but we're waiting on the update of the board before we reorganize! Once that happens Zendragon and I will be able to have things neat as a pin in here!!!

Also- any ladies that want to meet up at Dragon*Con, what the staff has devised is this: we're going to have the ladies meet up at the same place/time as the usual RPF meetup. We're one big community and we don't want to divide that. BUT! I will have a TALL SIGN of the RPF logo in PINK to show you where I am, so that all the ladies can find me, and we can group up to say HI!

Just to share some of my recent stuff:

GREAT costumes..very good eye for the small details. Also very sexy and attractive costumes and characters as well. Look alot like Deanna in the TNG pic. Very well done on all. :thumbsup

Late to the party! I was gone all weekend at Costume College so missed AbbyDarkStar's poke to post.

Hi, I'm AJ! I have ok boobs... for an asian girl. :$ Uh I've been lurking here for a while but I'm not not a huge poster on forums. I love to read and see what people are up to on these forums though. It's amazing what people on here have done!

I can do lightweight hard costumes. My biggest hard costume being a rather sad attempt at a Bioshock Big Daddy Rumbler that still needs a lot of love and repair... one of these days I will get back to him.

Mostly I stick to fabric though and lately it's been a lot of historical costumes. I stuck a couple photos of things I've done down below.

I would love to costume in the hot outfits, but my exposure to hardcore anime cosplay circles who had the collective attitude you should only cosplay those characters you deeply identify with *and* can pull off physically, has left a deep impression on me.

Can anyone else here relate to this?

It's so disappointing to hear that it's like that now. Whatever happened to "costuming is an act of fandom"? Shouldn't costuming be for fun and because you are expressing your love/appreciation/fandom of something? And really, .5% of the population actually look like anime characters so why are we even going there...? :unsure

In response to machines to buy: I'm a huge fan of buying used machines. You can get an old all metal geared machine for fairly cheap that will sew through leather. My old roommate has a 1920's Singer that can crunch through just about anything and she got it for $50 at an estate sale. I like to look at CraigsList for used machines. (Not that I need another sewing machine...)

If you want an all around good modern machine, I would second (or third) the opinion about Janome. Modern machines are much more portable and I have to move my machine around a lot and cart it to a lot of places which is why I switched to a Janome from my previous all-metal-geared-machine.

Anyways, it's really cool to see this thread and all the amazing ladies on it!

No honey...you were supposed to get that checked out months ago :facepalm

No, no, I'm pretty sure I have some like everyone else.

Sure, mine are flat and no fun to look at, but it's not like there is a deep space void below my neck and above my tummy.

I'll admit, watching my wife breast feed our less then a week old new daughter mine don't have the same magic as hers or yours.
