Hi! I have boobs and I make...

(I wrote a reply and it got deleted, because I took too long... *sigh* Here we go again).

MaulWalker, I really love your Indian woman; very believable.

And Fangs: a Zam! I love Zam's costume, but I'd never dare to try and make it myself.

I guess I should share some pics now that this has been turned into a 'show and tell' thread. ;)

This is the third version of Leia's ceremonial dress; it's the first one I'm happy about. (Although there always is something that could be changed, right?)

The flamegown was pretty much an experiment, but it turned out quite well. I made these with my friend.

My most used costume: the jedi.

It's a constant work in progress as I keep making new things for it and upgrading other parts.

And now for an obscure costume: dressing up as a member of the satire group The Deserts Sons (Ørkenens Sønner)!
A good close-up:

And a blurry full-shot:

I really should get some better pics of this.

Hello, I'm female too :) I've been a member here for a bit over a year, but I haven't posted much of my work because a) I have an unfortunate tendency to start projects and not finish them and b) a lot of what I do isn't a replica of anything--I do a lot of costumes from books--so I'm not sure it belongs here.

My main focus is sewing (I went to school for apparel design) but I have done a bit of makeup, propmaking, craft foam armor (no fiberglass yet) and electronics (just enough to make things light up, really). Those are all areas I'd like to get better at. I'd also like to do more with spandex costuming, but that I think is more about getting up the nerve to wear it. I am extremely pear-shaped--good for medieval costuming and not much else--and pretty self-conscious about it.

Hello. I'm Laura and I have small Boobs but I do make costumes.

Haven't made 100's like some but I have a few aswell as actual Clothing I have made for myself, the kids, Hubby or friends.

My last 2 Costumes were Duela Dent (Teen Titans) and CardCaptors Sakura.

Hi! Im into costuming but it is my weakness which means Im doing more of it to become better. I love to draw and paint and after doing more with costume construction I have some ideas for props using resin casting, leatherwork, etc.

Current project is the USO or Chorus girl from Captain America which I will be wearing at Dragon Con and marching with the other girls and hopefully the masquerade as well!

I love RPGs iconic characters, specifically, Paizo's Pathfinders Ameiko, Kyra and some others... so those are coming soon. I also love historical costuming and research which is where I started. Other geekery love is Stargate SG-1 and hope to create some female gou'uld system Lord costumes as well as some other non-military costumes such as Lya of the Nox. (Nothing against the military ones just I don't want to wear a uniform for a little bit! And I just don't see too many other SG-1 costumes that are non-military)

That's a start for an intro... I also post a lot of artwork at DeviantArt... add me if you're on there too! I love seeing other people's work :)

I'm going to come out and say that I have a lot of issues with my body and self-esteem, so I am finding myself drawn more to androgynous or unisex costumes that in a way de-emphasize my body as a sexual object.

I would love to costume in the hot outfits, but my exposure to hardcore anime cosplay circles who had the collective attitude you should only cosplay those characters you deeply identify with *and* can pull off physically, has left a deep impression on me.

Can anyone else here relate to this?

I can relate! I don't really have boobs as in it is hard to find my size without going to the f*ing juniors section [end slight rant].... but I do like some costumes that are genuinely feminine... IE Im just going for it this year and doing the USO girl costume... the ladies on there are super supportive and helpful in getting me going and how to mod the pattern... thanks ladies and esp Kathy!

Screw those anime circles (no offense to anyone here) but I feel you can find something that you can love yourself in and identify with! Just got to find your motivation and inspiration and forget the others! :cool

<snip>

Those types of people should be kicked in the ass repeatedly with a steel toe boot. Who are they to say that you can't wear, or do or accomplish something you want??

It has to do with being comfortable with yourself and yourself in the costume. If YOU are, then who cares what someone else thinks? And if someone says something mean to you and they were considered a friend, then they aren't your friend.

I think what matters is construction, execution and if you wear it proudly.

YES! I love this :love

I sort of know the feeling ... I don't usually go for sexy costumes (nothing against them, just not my thing) but I've got big hips and a pretty feminine face; there's no way I could successfully crossplay. But hey, not all female characters go for the sexy look (though sometimes it seems like most of them do...) so I end up doing stuff like this:

tumblr_m87f9isHw81rvky18o1_1280.jpg

I did one time dress as Lust from Fullmetal Alchemist, but I wasn't all that happy with how it turned out. Black satin photographs horribly. As far as sexy characters go, though, Lust doesn't actually show an awful lot of skin, which is I guess what I'm really self-conscious about.

Note: Im about to slightly derail this thread on a fun tangent so I hope y'all don't mind!

<snip>
The only time I ever got any flak for a costume was when I was dressed as Haldir in Canada and was being interviewed - they wanted to know why a woman would dress as a male elf when there were female elf costumes. I was like - uh, did you see how cool this armor is? Why wouldn't I want to wear it??

I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree! In fact I take it one step further and actually compete in full contact armored combat in the SCA* (for those who know what it is) Now Im 5'4" and only 135lbs... so yes I get the "but your a little girl" look but then I promply bust their ***** with a 9' spear or zonk them with combat crossbow (its rated at 450 inch pounds which almost the *minimum* not max allowed and have yet to have anyone shrugs the shots!) Im not too good at sword and shield as my arm strength is "meh" and I live in a heavy-hitting "Kingdom".... my current kit is generically late century Byzantine but I have thought about Goryeo dynasty (I blame Korean historica dramas) and Mongolian....

Here is a fun video demonstrating when I do have my moment with sword and shield (in this case buckler... I hate buckler but it was first time using it so...and this is a goo friend Im fighting, we had a good laugh and still do about this!) Rohesia vs Bors - In the Face - YouTube

Okay..back to the topic... I feel very motivated to prove people wrong when I get the feeling that they think I can't do it... would be part of my military experience and the fact that I hate when anyone gets the attitude that I shouldn't do something because Im a girl and x, y, z...

Hi yall! I'm currently in dragoncon cruch mode so I'll keep it short for now. I'm Kell and I'm a Star Wars, Doctor Who, Harry Potter, etc fan who has too many costumes.

There is some really amazing work in the thread, too, I'm really enjoying looking through it all :)

I think I got caught up ...sorry for all the replies to earlier stuff all at once... but I haven't paid as close attention as I would like to the forums due to projects for DragonCon crunch time!

But with that though I wanted to say I love everything that was posted... all the costumes, props, ideas, encouragement, etc... ladies, you are all amazingly talented and beautiful so keep up the great work! I hope to post some of my stuff either here (on different threads?) and/or deviantart.... I really am enjoying the camaraderie Im getting from this thread and hope to see some of you at DragonCon!!!

EHyde, that is a great costume! :D

And sure you can crossdress if that's what you want to do. :) I've seen some male characters that have pretty feminine faces/bodies, so that's a possibility. Or you could just make a female version of the character. Or choose a masked, male character. :) So many possibilities... so little time!

More likely to go with a female version of a male character, in fact I'm doing a very low-key female version of Tony Stark for dragoncon (which pretty much just consists of normal clothes and an arc reactor, but whatever, it's shiny right?)

I think I prefer doing female versions of male characters over crossdressing because it sort of says, the awesomeness of a character has nothing to do with their sex. Or something.

So I've been urged to post!
Hi! My name is Ali and I have chest cushioning and spend way too much time in front of my TV and sewing machine!
I've been sewing since I was 8 and costuming for about ten years now, though I've never really taken it seriously until the past few years and never had the confidence to show my stuff next to the fantastic people on these forums and try to get my name known until very recently(like...VERY recently). I also do prop building and armor making with my husband-to-be(kidultron on here!), make jewelry and bead-weave, embroider with both thread and beads, and have recently been dabbling with lace-making, makeup and prosthetics, and leather-crafting. I also dabble a little in photography.
I haven't done much in the way of amazing, but I've gotten to the point to where I'm really starting to challenge myself and if my in-progress costumes go as planned, they're going to be something to see!
Here are some costumes I've done(for myself and others):
Kero for my godson Keaden, the cutest little costumer you'd ever meet!

Tim Drake Robin for my fiance:

Myself as Claire Redfield. Really needing to get a pic of the back, that's where the REAL art is! *L*:

My original Steampunk dress(I did everything save the shirt). Mmm...gathers:

And my best known and favorite persona, Steph Brown Batgirl:

I have a few others in my photo albums, and you can find a LOT of my newest, in-progress work at my facebook page Just A Spoiled Bat! I love keeping people updated as to the in-progress work and what I'm up to in the creation of my costumes, so I try to take as many in-progress pics as I can.

I love doing this. Straight up right there. As someone who's struggled with what to do with their life, I've found something I've yet to get sick of doing. I also suffer from (what we are pretty positive is) MS, so my costuming and work and everything helps me get through a lot of the pain and distracts me from it, so this has all been more than a hobby for me, it's been a godsend.

I really need to post more. I've been a lurker for so long but never had guts to post much. I'm gonna try and change that when I have the time to do so, so here's to us chicks and our awesome hobby!

*waves* Hey SpoiledBat....Glad to have you over here!!!

I forgot to add some of my recent stuff...So here are a few!

EHyde: ARC reator! I think I just died a little from happiness. It looks very realistic.

SpoiletBat your costumes are great. :) And when it comes to being a long time lurker, I think it's hard to beat me. At least when it comes to being a long time lurking forum member. :p

hello.. i also have boobs.. LOL! i've just been a member here for just about 10 minutes and also a newbie in cosplaying.. hahaha! wish me luck! though i've been watching videos that could give me ideas on how to sew costumes and create props.. ^_^
