Hi from Weta

Sorry....Weta, not WETA. :$ I suppose it makes sense since it's not an acronym.... :)

Thanks SithLord

Yeah, the Weta is actually a bug, that's been around since the age of the dinosaurs. The Giant Weta is only found in New Zealand and is the world's heaviest insect. It's creepy, crawly and lives in caves or in the bush. It's a Maori word and can be lossely translated as "the god of ugly things" !

(a bit of useless info)

Tim

do you guys have anything planned for avatar?

noble collections has some knives, jewelry.

thanks

Hi dcc clone

No, no merchandise planned for Avatar.

Of course, we are very proud of the movie, having worked on it for 4 years. It's a great thrill to see people are enjoying it so much

Cheers

Tim

Welcome Weta!

Even though times are tough, money is tight, I just had to make room for the Arc. The signature weapon from one of the best films of the year from the people who made them for the movie ... how could I pass it up?

Can't wait to see what else you roll out from this great movie.

Welcome Weta. Great choice of name when you see the bug..it has movie creation written all over it. When ever I see it I think how lucky we are in Aust to have the poisonus snakes and spiders and none of those!

I can't speak for anyone else but the more licensees interacting with prop fans, the better IMHO. So, welcome, Tim - I for one am glad you're here!

Rob

Welcome! Awesome of you to join the forum and to answer questions.

And I have to include this picture of a Weta given your little post about it.

How big is that thing? Looks like these little (2 inch maybe?) burrowing crickets we have here, we call them "Jerusalem Crickets." David Lynch played with them in Mexico while shooting Dune and called them 'The Children of the Earth." Really creepy, especially since they are sort of caucasian flesh colored.

Great to have some official voices here, though I hope it doesn't cause trouble for you Tim! After all, there are people here creating loving replicas of the work you folks have done at Weta.

Are you allowed to share photographic reference with us or the use of found items in the props that have been made (or even if there are NO found items in the props that have been made)?
Scale of items, etc.?

Even if not, welcome!
Hopefully you'll enjoy reading through the threads here.

Hi Tim! Welcome onto the RPF! Always nice to see a studio representative join on for the conversations here.
Thank you also for the warm welcome I received from you at the Dr. Grordbort's Infallible Forum.

Looking forward to any insights you can offer to the members here as well as the usual prop talk. :)

Most Welcome wETA!
New Z-land Rocks!!! On those islands, they grow 'em truly Inspired!
(bonus points: NZ also home to the Finn Bros.)

According to the Wiki, they can get up to 4 inches long (just the body), 8 inches total counting 'leg-span' and can weigh 20-30 grams. An egg-filled one was weighed at 70 grams, one of the heaviest insects documented...

Eww...

I wonder if they have them in aquariums when you walk in the door. :lol

I wouldn't want to step on one of those...

Anyways, glad to see you guys made it on here. I've been a big fan of your Halo short films..naturally, having studied what props your shop made for the films, is there any slight chance your studio might be releasing any 1:1 scale props? I'd kill to own one of the sniper rifles or that covenant carbine..
