Hi Everyone

I hope you don't mind me joining your forum (and a very cool forum it is !). My name is Tim, I manage the merchandising and promotional department at Weta.

Of course, Weta loves making movie props and collectible weapons, as much as anybody else on earth. We are best known for creating the original props for The Lord of the Rings, Avatar, District 9, Kong, Narnia, Halo movie shorts, and many others.

If you'd like to know more about us, please visit our website at http://www.wetanz.com

You can see our full list of movie projects here http://www.wetanz.com/projects

And you can keep up to date by signing up for our free newsletters here : http://www.wetanz.com/insideweta/newsletter

We have an online shop which offers fine art limited edition collectibles and merchandise http://www.wetanz.com/shop. We have just launched our range of District 9 props.

And we have created our own brands such as the extraordinary universe of Dr Grordbort's http://www.wetanz.com/holics/index.php?catid=4

Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions

I will try to answer your questions on the District 9 threads

Cheers

Tim

Okay...I'll be the wet blanket.
Weta, why are you here? It looks as if you're just here to promote your site and nothing more.
If you're here to contribute and answer questions HERE, by all means welcome. However, you say, "I will try to answer your questions on the District 9 threads". Is that YOUR threads on your forum or HERE on ours?
I know this may come off as a little harsh, and for that I apologize. I would just hate for a company to come to the RPF and start an account, simply for the reason of pimping their products.

And I quote from the CoC:

I would imagine that's only a happy side-effect for the lads. I'm sure I've said a million times here that I was lucky enough to have my pal Chris Gossett arrange for me to have a tour of the place when I was in NZ on holiday... a day that was four days after my tenth anniversary, the day of my 43rd birthday, and the morning we found out the missus was pregnant with my son. And walking around Weta was still a toss-up on what was the most awesome thing that happened to me that day. :)

So, seriously, Armando: I can tell you every single person I met over there in 2006 loves props just as much if not more than all of us do, and I imagine it's probably still the same over there. You don't slave on something like that if you don't love it.

Shades of Amy (Was it Amy?) From MR/eFX. Funky, you are not being a wet blanket. You asked a VERY valid question. I think the difference is we have usually seen licensees build up FROM here and "pimp their wares", not be an established studio and come here to "pimp their wares".

Either way, good to see them here.

Don't get me wrong. I love it as much as everybody else when an established prop company comes on board. However, by the looks of their first thread, it's all promotions and sales.
Does Tim make any mention to the Arc gun and some of the questions we had about it? Has he added any insight to the prop that many of us have already purchased?
I just don't want to see them use this forum strictly for their sales. It's against the COC and usually the mods would not stand for it.
Are we supposed to make an exception for Weta???
If I jumped the gun, my appologies to Weta and the RPF, but go back and read that first post.
What am I to think?
If the mods chose to do nothing, fine.
But I will be watching every one of Weta's post with a VERY close eye.

MR, EFX and QMX all have accounts on the RPF. Why should Weta be treated any differently?

How many years did MRSteve/QMxSteve "pimp" their products here?

Where were you then?

Demanding information (I like how it's couched as "sharing") from professional prop makers and licensees isn't going to get you anywhere. No wonder so many of them avoid RPF'ers like the plague... :lol

Hi Funky Jedi

Fair questions. I appreciate your point of view and will be happy to keep out of the forum if that's what you guys prefer ?

Of course, we are partly here to promote our brand and our products. I will be completely honest about that. At Weta, we love making props. We are just a group of movie fans, like you, who want to make cool stuff. However in order to keep making props, we have to encourage people to go see our movies and purchase our merchandise. Just like you, we have to pay the rent and put food on our plates. And the best way we can do that is to connect with other fans, who are interested in our stuff.

We are not here to give you the "hard sell", but rather to answer your questions (on your threads), give you the info you want, listen to your complaints and hear from you what new stuff you would be interested in. Hopefully this is of help to you.

I won't be on the forum every day bombarding you, just every now and again

And most important of all, we want to have creative fun. Weta is first and foremost a creative group of people (some would say big kids in adult clothing) who like to make cool ****. So it's fun and motivating for us to chat with like minded people.

Cheers

Tim
