Hershey's bar wrapper?

Hi all, hope this is in the right place wasn't sure wether to put it here or in Replica Props. Anyways I'm needing to replicate the wrapper for the bar in the pic below, however I have no idea where to start, I'm not great with this sort of thing.

I have looked for this wrapper all over the net but it seems that they never made a bar with this exact wrapper there seem to be a lot of differences with the store sold bars, probably due to using it on film maybe? Anyways if anyone can help it would be much appriciated :)

kind regards

P

The "R" in Hershey's is different from the modern ones... Interesting.

Do you have an approximate date for this? WWII?

Not sure to be honest I'm thinking around the 60s-70s I believe it was aimed at being close to the Vietnam era, I've looked online and have found a few around that time that are close but of course not the same :-/

That "R" style seems to date from about 1940-1969... All the Hershey bar wrappers I see online are brown and silver, not brown and white, which lends credence to your theory of this being a reproduction of a wrapper. The "S" looks different from the period bars, too.

I see at least one guy selling repro wrappers (brown & gray) – do you want a close replica of 'your' wrapper, or a period wrapper?

To stay true to the screen used prop I'd be going for the same as in the picture really. :)

In that case, you're going to be looking for someone to replicate the wrapper graphics from that screencap?

If it's at all possible to do so, and if that's my only option, then thats what I'll have to go forward with :) if I could do it myself it would be a lot easier lol

Well, if you want to do it yourself, you can start by estimating the size of the wrapper or bar, and laying out the text in whatever program you prefer, using similar fonts.

There in lies the issue, I have no means to do it at the moment, no access to a computer :-( plus I haven't really a clue where to start hence this thread :)

Had some spare time and threw this together. No idea how accurate it is, had to use a fair bit of artistic license. Also include a vector version if someone wants to use this as a starting point for something closer.

Either way, I need practice then lol, it's from Tropic Thunder, probably not the most popular film.

Here are photos of the actual Tropic Thunder prop. (Images from PropStore)

I love Tropic Thunder!

So, this is from Jack Black's helmet, then?

And you're going to be replicating one? Which is why you posted about how to weather the M1 helmet cover in the other forum?

It is an awesome film :) indeed that is the one I'm going for, I have the helmet, the cover, the band and his red glasses, just sorting the few bits that are tucked in the helmet band. The oil bottle seems to be a made prop rather than an actual military used bottle as I've done many searches and the label and the bottle cap are different from the actual US military ones that were issued, but I'm getting there :)

Neat. Yeah, a quick look around shows the real gun oil bottles to be slightly different; strange that they made a replica rather than buy some old surplus ones.

I don't know if the Hershey's bars with almonds from that period were brown and tan, or brown and silver or brown and white: it's hard to find good references for those bars. The yellowing may be from weathering done to the costume pieces on set.
