Here Goes Something Awesome!

Hiya gang. Hope y'all had a good Fourth. After this weekend, I've been able to finsh up the "hull install" and get the boards in, wiring for the nacelles(like leading a herd of cattle), and fiinshed up the shuttlebay, sealed and lit. As for the detail paint I mentioned, I did more digging, and found differences between the first paint job and the ILM paint job, and I fixed them. Soooo...check it out.. These are lit kit photos, so, Bryan, be prepared for the supply list... Xmas in July baby... ;)

Thanks as always Wackychimp... You've been a great help.

My wallet lives in fear. Hangar deck looks great. Great paint detail on the lower sensor array, more pics....

Hotshot.
I get the feeling that, judging by the pics so far, yours is going to be the only refit so far that looks the part. Sorry if i'm stepping on anyones tootsies, but i've been monitoring these forums in the hopes of seeing something amazing and so far all i've seen are refits with the wrong colours, wrong aztec hull plating, wobbly lines, no lighting (what are you thinking.) glossy finishes (eechhhh...). I know, i know, put your money where your mouth is etc......but i have high hopes for your finished model. I understand that modelling is a personal thing, but with THIS kit it's really all about "how do i make this look as close to the movie as possible", don't you think?
Too many of these models are being shown as rushed and looking like a by-the-numbers ERTL or something.....

My Enterprise may not be as amazing as some when it's finished, but i'm darn well going to try to make it LOOK like an SFX miniature.

Looking forward to seeing some more of your fab work.

Rich

Well, pretty bog standard so far looks like you've used the aztec templates with the missing centre square on the top row of the pattern....i'd have just brushed it on.....look forward to seeing the finished pattern....

Rich

"bog" standard? yes aztec pattern used to make friskets. You can't tell, but that's two coats of grey and white primer, then three light coats of grey, ivory, and white. The bridge deck and impluse are white and ivory. the final white and pearl coats go on this weekend, then thedeatil work. Considering it took two hours to coat the thing, i'm not looking forward to the little panels.

Well, the bar has just been raised. Here's the first completed lit PL refit I've found, done all with LED's.

Wait a minute... is this YOURS that Hotshot built, or did you just "find" it?

I found it over at Starship Modelers board. This guy built it up and sold it on e-bay for $1700, which considering it's done with LED's is about right. A full LED build will easily be a $2000 proposition. HotShot is working on a more indirect lighting solution that will be substantially less than that and still give a great look.

That one has a great paint job, but I dont like how he used blue LEDs for everything, should have used white. The dish neededs to be a bit more baby blue than the intense blue he has too.. Other than that.. its great lookin refit.

I think it just looks blue because he overexposed the image a bit. I think. I would hope it's more white in person, the blus looks off.

Then allow me :) You're right, Hotshot, it's not perfect. He did a great job on some of the spots, but there is something things which seem off. Your paint job is superior, as the above image clearly illustrates. Why did he paint the bridge gold?. In TMP drydock cap Karl posted back on page 2 and 3 of this thread, it's not gold. He also has a light leek by the photon toprpedo tubes. I was just looking at the filming model images at cloudster.com, and you nailed that bridge dude. See for yourself: http://www.cloudster.com/Sets&Vehicles/STM.../cSTMPent49.jpg

Go get him, tiger. Show that punk up.

Was the front of the secondary hull EVER green like on the Bandai? Seems like the instructions for the PL kit specify green there as well, but it doesn't seem to be green in any of the photos.
