Here comes another Grail Diary

I spoke too soon and now I'm worse off than before.

I can't understand why I can't find drawings. What does marc use as a reference guide. Its NOT the link listed. Only a few drawings match up with his text

I shall find the Holy Grail if it takes me a lifetime

In this version 1.12 you can find the sources of (all?) drawings:

Still going at it. I passed 100 pages today. Actually 102. I have 10 signature books and I'm working in the 5th, about half way.

Here are some pictures. Still happy I haven't sewn the pages together yet. Very happy with my progress so far. And definitely glad I went with hand writing 20200918_212458.jpg20200918_212529.jpg20200918_212512.jpg20200918_212502.jpg20200918_212551.jpg20200918_212649.jpg

Looking really great! I've hand written/drawn two of these over the years. I tried to find some old pics, but they're long gone. For the second one, I made the journal and really took my time, doing all the movie and game pages and adding several of my own. Took me two months, but so worth it as it is my favorite prop that I've made myself. If you want any pics, let me know and I'll take some fresh ones. Main thing: have fun.

Thanks, always good to see pics of another journal for sure.

Wow, amazing job so far. Looking at your page I’m quite certain I might be missing some art work. Guess I’ll have to do more research myself.

I have been doing alot more research on the diary. I am not crazy about the appearance of my writing. Mainly the look of the ink. Too thin! !!

I'm thinking about starting over.

I was looking for scratch building details like paper and ink types. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of written diaries around. I can only find printed versions.

Can someone point me in the right direction for researching hand written diaries or at least, what will be the best paper and inks to use.

As of now, its parchment color paper but feels just as , if not a little thinner than standard printer paper.
Also my pen is a standard pen, standard ink.

Seeing how I plan to weather after the writing is complete, I'm guessing I will need an ink that won't bleed

Thanks in advance.
Kevin

So I decided on a restart.

A special thank you to Pascal. He offered great advise for what to use with inks.

I ended buying a calligraphy kit at hobby lobby for around 20 dollars, after their 40% off coupons they always offer.

I found a set of 2nds runs on blank diaries which I believe are perfect for beating up and weathering.

I just finished my first signature , I'm really happy with the look so far. So much better than my first attempt using a standard ball point pen.

Good call! A fountain pen or a calligraphy pen writes much differently than ballpoint or gel pens. That looks really great.

Part of me wants to start weathering this thing as I go. Probably not a smart thing to do though

More progress, I also started to weather and beat up the book itself. I will hold off on weathering the pages until I finish.

So I have a question.

I dont see where this fold out map goes. Didn't see it unfold in the film either ..

Is this map idealized?

Finally caught up to where I stopped my first attempt using a ball point pen. I went a couple of pages past as well.

Great job! I went for Marc's version a year ago and tried my best to put everything in order. I'm attaching the whole thing in video here in case it's useful to figure out where (I think) things go. If you want to sprinkle some ink here and there, may I suggest a toothbrush? It works like a charm for me and you can control the size of the drops by moving it closer or further from the paper.

Great work. I haven't had a chance to work on mine as of late. Holiday season and work kept me pretty busy. Now its playoff season for the NFL.
