Help With Coyle Trek III: SFS Tricorder

Out of pure luck, I stumbled across a Coyle Trek III Tricorder that I purchased for an unbelievably cheap price.

Obviously it’s going to need some paint restoration, but the electronics seem to be in working order (once I replaced a dead 9 volt battery and applied some oil to the plunger/ syringe to allow the pop-up mechanism to move freely once again).

The one area that I’m going to need some help with is replacing the current “push button” that triggers the pop up mechanism. What is installed now is not a spring-loaded push button but is, instead, something more akin to a brass tack that hangs loosely out of the side of the body.

Does anyone have any pictures they can post of the proper push button mechanism?

Thanks!

The 'button' its self reminds me of a flat head rivet, like this:

or possibly a threaded one, like this:

Here's a couple of Tricorders with their buttons intact:

Hope that helps. Good luck

I received some great insight over over at The Fleet Workshop regarding how the original pop-up functions…

It appears that the original rivet and spring in the pop-up head, itself, is still there…

But is this strange, floppy, tack original to the build and supposed to be the intended “push button”?

OK it looks like the wonky “split rivet” being used for the push button is original to the build.

I’ll need to do some modifications on that detail.
