Hi!

I'm having some problems with Alclad paint. I painted a fiberglass helmet with Alclad black primer then with High Shine Stainless Steel laquer. But when I try to weather it with betun de judea (bitumen judaicum), it ruins the work because the solvents.

What do you use to weather over Alclad laquers???? I really need a solution.

THANKS EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First of all I suggest sealing the Alclad with a Clear Coat first to protect the Metallic paintjob, then go over it with acrylics to test it and if that's the look you want then seal it again so the colors don't bleed!

I painted a Predator Helmet with Alclad and then weathered it with a Black color, but I did have to use a solvent to be able to Airbrush it, but it turned out great and did not ruin the Metallic look.

I'd recommend testing the clear coat over the alclad on a piece of scrap first. According to Alclad, the high shine paints don't take too well to clear coats. And even then it could just be the type of Clear (enamel, lacquer, acrylic). I'm in the starting process of testing the chrome with a clearcoat and i'll be using Future Floor wax, which is an acrylic. I'm expecting some dulling, but hopefully I'll still get a reflective metallic look, just not chrome.

Everything I have read on alclad said that clear coating will dull it down.
A standard in modeling is if the base paint is enamel or lacquer then use acrylic to weather over it so there is no solvent issues.
