Help me with ideas for a Goa'uld (Stargate) costume

I've got a Stargate fan group and we attend conventions. Typically I go in my BDUs and related military gear but I'd also like to make an alien costume as well.

I was thinking a Goa'uld, after all there are countless numbers of them and I'm pretty much wide open on selecting a costume. Pretty much anything thing that has an ancient styling to it....Egyptian, roman, indian, meso-american, etc....

I'm looking for something that would be very simple to make with my non-existent sewing skills, so I'm asking for ideas.

I'd also like to do an Ori Prior costume, but alas I cannot find a pattern for their robes and as mentioned before, I have like zero sewing skills...a pattern at the very least would be required.

The problem with doing a Goa'uld costume is that unless you do one of the named System Lords shown on the show over the years you won't be recognized for a Goa'uld although having a Jaffa escort would help some. One thing that I'd consider a must would the hand thingy (forget the name off hand), that would make you almost instantly recognizable as a Goa'uld. Another that woud be relatively easy is a voice changer so that you can get that Goa'uld sounding voice, unfortunately I don't think any of the toy voice changers out there have the right sound and you'd probably have to get a custom VOX or find a (more expensive) commercial vocalizer that approximates the Goa'uld sound. But actually projecting your voice is the easy, you just need a hidden mic (throat mic or some other concealable mic) and attach it to a hidden speaker somewhere on your costume but it would need to be (relatively) close to your head, you don't want to sound like you're talking from your belly or something weird like that.

If you want to go really hard core with your Goa'uld costume what you'd need to do in addition to the voice changer would be to figure out a way to make your eyes flash on command. I don't know if this is really possible but I've thought about it some in the past and I've that it might be doable if you can get some sort of contacts that will somehow reflect bright lights and use some hidden LED lights to shine on your eyes at the press of a button. If it can be done then in order for it to work you'd need to tailor your costume to hide the lights so I always thought that some sort of hood or hat would be required. As far as the lights go, I'd scavenge them from one of those ball caps with the built in LEDs in the brim and figure out way to extend the controller so that it would run down to your hand so you just press a button hidden in your hand or the sleeve of your costume.

One idea I've always had for a Goa'uld would not be for some sort of grandiose ancient style costume but a hidden Goa'uld instead. You'd just wear your regular SG gear but have the hidden voice changer and eye flasher so that when ever anyone came up to you to ask to take your picture or whatever they'll get a shock when they hear your voice and see your eyes flash.

For an Ori, I highly recommend you head on over to SciFiHero.net, it's a general costuming and props site sort of like the RPF but we specialize in Stargate over there and actually originally started out as Stargate costuming site. At least one of our members there have built an Ori costume and they should be able to help you with yours.

If you build a kara kesh (ribbon device) feel free to check out SG1Props where there are pictures here for the Ribbon Device that I made.

I bought some contacts from a site in England that are metallic and supposed to reflect light. I think they are the same sort that Vin Diesel used in the Riddick movies. I think those might reflect enough light especially if someone isusing a flash to take a pic of your costume.

I am also looking for a voice device as well if anyone has any ideas.
