Help in finding a good VACUUM PUMP

29 hg is pretty good for what you are doing. another thing you can do that is recomended on smooth-on's website when working with their crystal clear 200 series is to vac it then pressure pot it. im building a pot now from a harborfreight paint tank that i can vac then put 60 psi to it. my pump will do 30hg but it takes a while to pull the full 30"full vaccuum" the pup you have will prolly do the 30 if you leave it running and everything is sealed good.

i was reading yesterday that robinair pumps instructions state.......

"replace the oil after each use"

that can't be right can it?!

I use an old Edwards speedy vac. It pulls a full vacuum in about 2 mins and I use a stainless steel tank about 2 foot deep and 2 foot wide. I got the whole lot off eBay for £200 which is a bargin for something of that size.
I've used it loads of times and never replaced the oil yet.

One time(i live in So-Cal) I saw a huge vacuum former with a built in heater for $350.00.... It was in Indiana with Pick up only:cry... oh well

I bought a Robinair pump years ago, and haven't changed the oil yet as it still looks clean. For the tank, I converted one of my 5 gal. pressure pots- it's big enough to hold a 5 gal. bucket, and pulls about 29 in. hg in 2 minutes. I leave the silicone degassing for about 5 minutes after it "falls"- never had a problem pressurizing molds after degassing.

I use the motors from old fridges. They'll pump down to 29, and they're free. Put the hose on the other end and it's a compressor. And it's very quiet. If it stops working get another.
