HCG Korben Blaster - it's here! (Photos/Review)

I'm a little disappointed but it's not a deal-breaker for me. The electronics are a "nice to have" but it is ultimately a static display piece.

That said, HCG should be made aware that there is a problem and hopefully they will address it properly.

Instead of ripping the pistol apart, is there a way to just incorporate a switch inline with one of the battery holder leads, essentially have two switches?

Perfect. Mine arrived today. I opened this thread before even opening te box... :unsure

I'll report back later.

Totally respect your opinion, and agree most of the time (I rarely if EVER power up my MR Neuralyzer).

But man if I could have ONE prop and ONE prop ONLY with electronics, this - for me - would be it. Plus I have a solid resin static fan-boy version. I bought this one mainly for the electronics.

Here's what we do - call Hyperdyne, have him create not only a repair kit, but a sound chip for the snap-hiss of priming the gun, then ship them all over to Sidewinder for physical implementation! ;)

HCG seems to aware of the problem. It sounds like the problem has already been taken care of on their end and replacement pistols are available.

Since they said they would send a prepaid return label I'm going to send it back for a replacement.

I like it! :thumbsup

Well good news so far... (Knock on wood). The trigger and switch seem solid (unlike Sidewinder's) and the lamps fired up brightly. Its only been out of the box a few minutes though. I will likely make a practice of simply removing he batts when not in use.

If you grip this type of batt like that, you're gonna short circuit the battery - surely?

If I was a gambling man, i'd bet any replacement you get will have exactly the same problem.

Hi Guys,

Thank you for all your input!

We are aware there is a problem, and are checking with the factory to see if the problem is likely to affect the whole production run or just some pieces. It is Chinese New Year at the moment which may cause a delay in resolving this issue, but hang tight and we will come up with a solution once we know all the facts.

Great job by the way Sidewinder in isolating the wiring fault!

Thanks,

Mark

Mark,

I just recieved a return label via email. Should I wait to see if the replacement has the circuit issue corrected or go ahead and send in my current blaster? I wouldn't want to swap guns only to have another one with the same circuit and fresh batteries.

BTW, your customer service is terrific. Quick response and followup. THANK YOU.

Do I win a prize?

Actually, another possible solution is to pull out the batt holder to expose the wiring and splice in a switch on one of the wires (maybe needin a bit of extra wire added for flexibility) and install it in the base. Might need to grunge away some of the resin to permanently fix the switch in, there but as it'll be covered by the butt plate that don't matter.

Honest answer - I don't know!

Until the factory get back to us after Chinese New Year I will not know if all the production run is affected or just some of it. More than happy to switch faulty pieces out but the replacement may have the same problem.

Probably the best option is to sit tight for two weeks or so until the CNY is over and then we will be able to come up with a solution to these issues. We will get it sorted out!

Best,

Mark

Had mine a few days now. Electronics are getting wonkier each day. Front LED lights fine, but the counter is ridicously "non-solid state". When it does light, the trigger pulls create all sorts of varying results.

It's a shame that such an otherwise beautiful prop has been blighted by such flimsy electronics... :unsure

I unboxed mine last Wednesday... been leaving it "off" but checking it briefly each day, and I had thought mine might possibly be OK...

But just now I tried it again and got the exact same symptoms as PHArchivist! :cry

Sigh. Well let's hope there's a reasonable response from Hollywood Collectables... that earlier "your replacement might be bad too" was no answer as far as I'm concerned.

I hope the quirkiness of the counter is simply due to the battery drain previously mentioned.

I don't particularly mind removing the batts when not using it. I do so with the MR Neuralyzer, and IIRC, MR advised you to take them out of the Neuralyzer when not in use.

But if the problem is with a flimsy counter, regardless of battery strength, then that would be a bigger issue...

Well actually my counter WAS working OK, but as of today it is spitting random numbers and flickering dimly.
