Hasbro Millennium Falcon : Weathering , filters and pastels

Help needed with getting a dimension from Entex Rotary Engine,
currently I am eye balling the depth of the case, but the rear looks too deep at the rear, if anyone has the 1/5 entex rotary engine can they measure the depth, see where I have the ruler against my scratch built engine,
thank you

Hi guy, I measured the part you mentioned. It is exactly 1.25 inches, where you show the ruler. That measurement doesn't include the detail pieces on the sides. Cheers,

Joe

Joe,
thanks for that, just to clarify the 1.25 inch is where I have the green marker pointing to, if you can give me the depth to the lower lip where the red marker is pointing to I would appreciate it ,
Brian

OK that was 10 minutes of my life well spent. I can't believe I've never thought to use a heat gun to help my paint dry faster... What kills me is the heat gun is stored less then 3 feet from y airbrush compressor...

As for your build looks great so far!

I think part of the reason why you didn't think about using the heat gun to dry the paint faster, much like how I never considered it myself, is because a heat gun can heat up and possibly warp plastic, in addition to the possibility of melting it. But I will admit, seeing it makes me want to consider using it for painting props and models.

And I agree, it looks great so far. :)

Hey man, Made up a little drawing. Hopefully I got the Dim your looking for. The drawing is a bit busy. Tried to squeeze it all in, LOL. Let me know if you need any other Dims, Cheers,

Joe

Thanks Joe, you went above and beyond there , thanks again. And the pictures from all directions really help understand the shape,I will cut up mine immediately with my new scaled part.
The one I had made would not fit between the cockpit and the wall without being cut, the original had nothing removed so I knew there was something wrong with my depth measurements.
Once its done ill offer the piece up and see how it looks.
Brian

Glad I could help. The part is a little hard to see since its clear. Can't paint mine though, because I want to cast it. I have a long way to go before I start putting parts on the five footer. I just want to get a "nekkid" shell built, to see how big this puppy actually is. I'll just pretend its at a Corellion shipyard right after being put together. Long before Han won her in that Sabacc game, LOL.

Does anyone have a Hasbro Hero Series Millennium Falcon they want to sell? Or does anyone know where I can find one? The ones on eBay are too expensive. It will be my first try at a model. I want to paint it and add lights.

Thanks.

Thanks.

There is one on EBay right now that is $76.49 with free shipping. That is pretty much the original MSRP of $60 with shipping built into the price. it's not the discounted wal-mart bargain bin price, but it is not price gouging either

This is a pretty ambitious endeavor for a first-time modeller.
The plastic these things are made out of is an absolute NIGHTMARE to glue and paint on.
That's what's stopping me from trying one myself.

Honestly, jump right in. The plastic sucks, no doubt BUT it is workable, even with little experience. I haven't built a plastic model in...well, let's just say it's been a long time and leave it at that. This is totally do-able.
.
The plastic responds well to a hair-dryer first, then light, repeated strokes with either an X-acto or a scalpel. True it does shred, but can be tamed with some small files, and a bit of heat to singe the stubborn threads. The scary bits are really optional, and while I'm working up the nerve, I haven't yet - slicing away some material from the front of the hull to create the overhang above the mandibles, and cutting out the maintenence pits to make them actually recess under the hull.
.
As for glue, two options for you; first, what I did, find some Lepage All Plastic super glue. It's a two-part product - stroke on the surface prep stuff, wait 60s, put a tiny bit of glue on the things you're trying to glue, hold 'em in place 30s, and they're well and truly glued. Been doing it for weeks slowly making hull panels, and have not had an issue with any of them staying put. Second option, and what it seems most people are doing, pick up some bumper adhesion promoter from your local auto or hardware big-box store. Hit the whole ship with the stuff (like a clear-coat), then paint, putty, and glue on that.
.
If you don't mind the look of the 32" Falcon, I'd say pick one up and go for it before the thing vanishes - cheap enough to mess up, and anyways the Falcon is so knocked around that it'll be easy to hide most mistakes.

Finally got a hasbro falcon too! Does anyone know if there are any 3D files around that I could use to print some of the parts needed to upgrade it? I have a Form1 printer and would love to be able to print the parts myself.
