Furthermore, had Master_Shake bothered to do any research whatsoever, he would've seen that every penny brought in from both editions of the Tales is going to charity to help children in need:
Oh, yes. Obviously, she's a very 'greedy cow' indeed.
I know this thread is almost dead, but I wanted to chime in. I'll say up front that I'm biased. I work on one of, if not the, biggest Harry Potter fan sites out there. I met my wife through that site. So yeah, I'm a bit of a Potter nerd. :$
My friend Melissa, who owns the website I work for, has actually spent time with JK Rowling at her house. Melissa's book about Potter just came out, and Jo actually wrote the preface. Jo doesn't care if you write a book about Potter, so long as the content of that book is original. What she doesn't want is someone taking her work, re-arranging it into chronological or other order, and publishing it. That's what Steve Vander Ark was doing. As noted, the proceeds from "Beedle" all went to charity. Jo has mentioned in the past that the proceeds from her encyclopedia would also go to charity. If another version of the same thing exists, it can be argued that this would interfere with sales of her book. I think anyone who sees her as a greedy cow 1) doesn't know anything about her and 2) is jealous of her success. Who here wouldn't love to have that much money?! God. The props I would have if I had that kind of cash!
And in a sad attempt to keep this on topic, I also have the delux edition and a regular paperback version to read (once my wife finishes it, that is). I agree with everyone else. I love the cover, packaging and everything. I was a bit disappointed in the jewels, though. I would think that, for $100, you could at least use some sort of non-precious or semi-precious gem. Little amethysts or something would have been better. Still, I think it's very well done and very close to the hand made versions she did.
