Harry Potter: Deathly Hallows Display

Re: Harry Potter: Deathly Hallows WIP - Elder Wand COMPLETE

Awesome, I can't wait to see what you've done to it!

Re: Harry Potter: Deathly Hallows WIP - Elder Wand COMPLETE

Hey, folks, sorry this took a while, but I wanted to get it right.

So, I cut it down to reduce the diameter. I just took a sharp knife and shaved the roundness off the sides of the wand, so it looked older and more woodlike:

And overall, I think it's much much better now:

I think this one's finished. Now just to wrap up the Resurrection Stone...

Re: Harry Potter: Deathly Hallows WIP - Elder Wand COMPLETE

amazing job on the wand! The best way to finish a wand is with a wand wax/wand polish. It gives the wand a nice sheen that's not a '5 coats of poly' type of shine. It rubs in smooth and helps protect the wood from drying out as well. If your interested you can pm me about how I make my wand polish.

Re: Harry Potter: Deathly Hallows WIP - Elder Wand COMPLETE

Yeah, that'd be good. I think I might skip it on this particular wand - cause it's like a thousand years old, and all. Still, drop me a PM with your recipe. I'd appreciate hearing from you on that.

On the docket next; Harry, McGonnagall (spelling?) Pomfrey, and Lovegood wands.

Re: Harry Potter: Deathly Hallows WIP - Elder Wand COMPLETE

I love it! I especially love that it's actually made from a elder wood. Great job!

Re: Harry Potter: Deathly Hallows WIP - Elder Wand COMPLETE

It actually feels kinda like it ought to break - really light and whippy. Not flexible, though, but that might just be a characteristic of the wood.

Thanks for the comment, Alessandra. :)

I just finished this one; had to pick up a shadowbox from Michaels, and I just so happened to walk in when those shadowboxes were on sale for 40% off. Win for me. So, with eleven bucks, this is how my display wrapped up.

And the Resurrection Stone in its new home.

Oh, I suppose you folks haven't seen the Invisibility Cloak yet. Well, in my opinion, the propmakers kinda dropped the ball in Sorcerer's Stone with this one, so I went with the silvery-smooth fabric of the books. It's just a quarter yard of a silver metallic satin which has a nice sheen as you move it around, and so I just used it as backing on my display. It means the display's a little cramped - that's a lot of fabric - but it makes for some varied folds in the backing, and that makes for some unique lighting on the display; some of it's actually reflected back in interesting ways. You can see that between the different photos in this post. Compare, for instance, the first and last photos.

See, everyone? Even my cat likes it!

Let me know what you think. I'm pretty pleased with it, and it makes for a nice display, either horizontal or vertical, so I'm good with that.

I'm actually kind of surprised your cat isn't trying to sit on it. That's what mine do..."Ooh, a new sitting experience!" :lol

Really great display, and I love the wand.

The cat did manage to walk across it. He slipped on the glass, though, so I don't think he'll be trying that again.

Thanks for the comment. It turned out pretty well.
