No offense to Harrison Ford but didn't he once say "You can type this **** George but you can't say it" about a certain sci fi film NOBODY would think would be any good at the time it was filmed. And he didn't want to touch the Indy4 script for years because the story George Lucas produced wasn't right for Indiana Jones character . Ten years ago he was spot on the money and he said so.A decade on and he wasn't so picky. I wish he had been.
Perhaps IF he and Steven Spielberg had pushed we would have got a better film instead of the one with flying fridges, stupid monkey swings, rubber snakes and transdimensional computerised grey escapies from the SW prequels. Harrison Ford is not well known for tolerating idiots and poor dialogue, but easy to work with? Remember "Bladerunner" Harrison. Didn't he have a running feud during and after the filming with Ridley Scott about possibly one of the best sci fi movies of all time? And he hardly promoted the film well or threw himself into supporting it at the time of release if I recall rightly.
So its a bit rich listening to that criticisim of LaBeouf. Be ****ing honest ,do you think he was wrong? He said it diplomatically, he was constructive, he was polite and you could tell he felt as bad about those scenes as we did watching them. If anyone at his age was lucky enough to get into those mega budget films with those directors you would think he wouldn't dare say a word so it takes a lot of self honesty and balls to do it. Whatever you think of the kid you've got to admire him for saying it. He'll never carry the mantel, for there was only one Indiana Jones. I'm just a little embarissed for Harrison that he came down so hard on the kid.
PS I had to laugh. Just below that interview is another one where HF really kicks films for using too much CGI (and this was posted in May 2011 way ahead of the "C and A" openning.
"Harrison Ford criticises modern action films' CGI reliance 'Star Wars' veteran believes effects make films 'soulless'
Harrison Ford has laid into modern action films for relying too heavily on CGI effects. Ford made his name with roles in the Star Wars and Indiana Jones films, but he says that the reliance on digital techniques has served to alienate audiences in recent years.
He told the Los Angeles Times: "I think what a lot of action movies lose these days, especially the ones that deal with fantasy, is you stop caring at some point because you’ve lost human scale. With the CGI, suddenly there’s a thousand enemies instead of six - the army goes off into the horizon. You don't need that."
Ford continued: "That's something that’s constantly happening, and it makes these movies like video games and that’s a soulless enterprise. I don't have time for that."
Ford can next be seen opposite Daniel Craig in Cowboys And Aliens, due for release in the UK on August 12.
Go Harrison!!! Obviously Cowboys and Aliens is going to be an effect free classic from the John Wayne days of cinema Westerns!
I think not.
