30 years, sheesh i'm feeling old!, happy birthday empire, first film i watched on videotape, cost 75 quid back then, ouch!

I don't even want to think about how many versions of that movie I've owned over the years, starting with the old VHS.

Back in late 1980 ... this was the first thing I ever saw of the Star Wars Universe
in a local toystore in my small hometown in Friesland ...

ESBYodaOS2.jpg

I bought it and went home ... very pleased with my little green gnome ... :love

Huge was my surprise when early in 1981 walking past the local movie theatre,
where they had those PR pictures of the Empire Strikes Back in the window,
I discovered my little green toy gnome to be a real movie character. The next day
I went with my father to see the movie ... till this day he can still remember the
totally overwhelming and flabbergasted look on my face when we left the movie
theatre some 2 and a half hours later. It had changed my whole outlook on life ...
and I had finally found some kindred spirits. Everything from drawing little gnomes,
wizards and other fantasy figures to collecting toy PVC figures like those blue smurfs
and other animated characters fell into place ... and it did not end there. On the same
rack as my little green gnome were more exciting strange looking action figures like
Chewbacca etcetera. The collecting of more Star Wars action figures had begun . . .

As you can imagine after seeing the title crawl of Star Wars The Empires Strikes
Back mentioning Episode V I had to get my hands on Episode I,II,III and IV ...
completely unaware of the fact that the first three were yet to be written. However
my hunger for more was soon to be satisfied when they released ANH in our local
movie theatre, I believe for the first time, right after ESB became a huge success
... even though it must have been around somewhere in our country back in 1978
but alas I lived, as you might say, in the outskirts of the universe back in those days.

Anyhow here's a toast to that small green action figure back in 1980. Here's looking
at you YODA .... CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR 30th ANNIVERSARY!!!

This movie definitely had the best looking props and costumes from the trilogy...at least in my opinion. :D
