Han Solo in Carbonite: A novice build

Dumb luck or not, I congratulate you too! This is turning out very well.

Thank you! I'm loving this build. I recommend it to anyone.

Great work! Now I want to build a HIC. My wife hates you! :D

It will pass. Once it's hanging on the wall, she will love you for it.

I don't think I've ever commented on a HIC but I must have checked out everyone of them. Such a sweet prop. This build is awesome man and you thread is really detailed. Cheers for whacking it up here. If I ever get to do one of these it's got to be hiding a secret door! lol

Thanks for the kind words. If you build one, definitely post it here. I'd love to see it.

I can't recommend Zenix's frame enough.

I second that. What a time saver! It's a great kit and well worth the money.

I've done all my measurements and settled on a final resting place in my office for the HIC. I plan on hanging it tonight. However, this thing is not as heavy as I thought it would be but it's still very heavy. It's somewhere between 80 and 90 pounds (176 - 198 kg). I'm so thankful that my repulsor-lift kit arrived in the mail yesterday to help move it around. I've been waiting 30 years for this and, luckily, it's 2015. As we all know, magnetic levitation technology has miraculously arrived! Here are my results:

Seriously, though, I will be posting pics soon of my hanging process. This should be interesting...

What are you guys using to mount them to the wall? I have a good idea in mind on how I'll be hanging mine up, but wanted to see if anyone had some clever contraptions they've built as some sort of easy-mount system. I plan to mount a board across 2 studs and then making a recessed heavy duty hook from 2 inner support corners and then hang it from the custom mounted board bracket, if that makes sense.

edit***
I backtracked and saw your TV mount idea. That's an awesome idea! It won't be able to lock at all from the mounting flush to the wall, but nothing is going to knock that down unless it were a major earthquake.

I just may go that route!

Here's the actual shadow. It looked fake so I eliminated it. Ha!

I'm using a flat panel TV mount rated for 165 pounds mounted to an interior brace structure.

I plan on placing a small wood rod behind the HIC to help push it off the wall at the bottom an inch so that it doesn't actually touch the wall and looks like it's floating off of the surface. It's hard to describe but I'll show some pics later. It makes sense in my head.

I decided to install a light last night. I got one of those cheap USB bi-color lamps for about $10. I tried to figure out how to clamp it on but ended up unscrewing it from its clamp and installing it directly onto the top middle pocket.

My hanging partner went to bed early last night and I didn't get to hang him just yet but here is how he looks standing up. I'm totally geeking out over this.

Looks so cool

Thank you! I'm so happy with the way it turned out. I really want to get this thing hung and out of the garage. Here in Phoenix it's warming up quickly and a hot garage might melt all the carbonite.

Now ... if you'd have someone stand next to Han in Carbonite dressed as the bountyhunter Boussh ... the picture will be complete ... great job indeed :)

I've heard good things about several suppliers but I personally got the kit from Kingjawa. Costs vary so I'd ask him what the current rate is.

Here's a shot of the mounting bracket. The other holes above the bracket are from a shelf I removed to make room for the HIC.
