Hammond cane build log

Easy-to-find, cheap clear casting resin sold in local craft stores that does NOT like to cure 100%...
ah, No I buy all mine from the local composite/fiberglass store. I mostly see surfboard manufacture guys in there, and boat guys. Pretty sure they all think I'm nuts.

Tip for the OP: The cane is supposed to be a fossilized dino tail. A lot of people presume it's bamboo. Not sure if you knew or not.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. THAT'S what it is. I always thought it was bamboo until I came here and saw some replicas. Then I realized it was supposed to look like bone, but had no idea what kind of bones it could be representing.

Got some more eggs done, I'm gonna have to open a sales thread soon, to off load some of them.
Don't worry I'll post a link here ;)

These look amazing! I've been trying to do this the last few days by casting one inside a plastic egg-shaped christmas ornament.... WHAT A DISASTER!

Would be cheaper/easier to buy one of yours, but the feeling of problem solving this is what makes this fun.

Do you have any tips on the mold making/casting process? I've seen people do one-part molds for this and it blows my mind. I can't imagine how you would get the mosquitto in there.

Cheers!

Yes, make a two part silicone mould. casting inside a plastic egg sound problematic.
I applaud your persistence in making your own, you learn the most that way :)
