Halo 4 Master Chief WIP

I want the helmet to be as close as possible to the game helmet but almost everyday i see a new screen shot or trailer and I notice something else i didn't see before so I've narrowed down what I'm actually gonna do ( pretty much everything ) and what I'm gonna live without... (anything that's gonna make me cut the helmet into pieces and reassemble ) I still have a lot of work to do... then Its off to the rest of the armor. After all that pep and constantly finding new things to fix i am slowly losing my enthusiasm but not to worry I will finish the whole suit but not nearly as fast as i first set out to.

I worked a little more on the nose detail but I haven't taken any pictures yet but I've also started to rework the back of the helmet sadly i don't have a lot of free time to work on it but this is what I've got done so far
the new ring i fashioned out of a plastic washer I got in a variety pack i purchased at lowes and a piece of aluminum bar

here's a side by side of the back and what it is that I'm trying to achieve. almost there...ish

Beautiful work thus far, i never thought of using a laser level.

First attempt at setting the back ring was a total failure so I cut it all out and made a new one from scratch and this is it in place before i blend it in with some spot putty

I also added that raised face that's on the side of the helmet behind where the lights go. Th pep i used didn't have this part included so i had to throw one together my self. I wanted to show all the steps to putting this piece on because i feel like it could help other people with adding new pieces without sculpting it out of something and sticking with a pepakura style build
1. Drilled some holes and sanded off most of the primer ( I drill the holes with the idea that it will give the fiberglass resin a better hold on the helmet)

next just used some edge lock tap to hold in place and seal my newly pepped piece
20121029_142621.jpg

I cut a small hole into the paper and fill it with fiberglass resin ( be sure to tape of the bottom of the holes you drilled too. forgot once made a big mess ) I wait for it to kick about 70% then I remove the paper and tape
the end result

Other than the air bubble thats easily fix you have new solid piece to your helmet to sand and shape to your liking

Looking great, I'm looking forward to seeing what you are doing next. Also, good work on the detail, a lot of builders put a lot of time and effort into making complete costumes but in the end they do not look that great because the lack of detail work cheapens the finished product. Glad to see that you are doing it right. I'm going to subscribe to keep track of your progress. Two thumbs up in my book!

its been a while since i last posted and i would have liked to have had a lot more done but i did do a few things other than play way to much Halo 4 :lol

I finally got around to a nose piece that I liked enough to go with. I still need to sand it down to get if to fit in right but i like it so far

I've also done some work on the back and side of the helmet I made stupid like colored arrows to point out what all i did. Yellow i raised that edge about 1/4 inch I still need to sand in the angle and square cut out. Green, red, and blue just adding in details that my pep file didn't have.

Some more dumb colored arrows haha.
built the raised edge around the lights and added that flair to the cheek.

After i finish the lower back and noise no more building but refining. The helmet looks worse than ever but a little more TLC and some elbow grease im gonna have it dialed in and sharp. I also wanted to thank everyone for keeping up with the thread and your kind words of encouragement.

i just saw the live action episodes on youtube. Master Chief was badass!!
I was watching them as they came out on Wayjpoint. I was scared it wouldn't meet my expectations but I was pumped on it and I wish their would have been more.

I totally agree with you. This started out as a speed build with a severe lack of detail but I'm glad i scratched that Idea. I know its gonna take me a lot longer to finish this build because of it but that's fine with me cause I know its gonna look damn good when its done ( at least I hope so )

Definately subscribing to this thread =]

Going to be starting work on my own Master Chief soon, but not sure I can get the level of detail you have on yours...

Man I've been working on my own for at least a year, been real busy with work and such but I'm hoping to finish it by next year. Anyways, real big fan on how everything is turning out, looks very sharp can easily tell your putting your heart into it. Keep it up!

small update I have a finished rough noise piece. I also started cutting into the visor and working out the details.

This is what i have for the hing pieces found by the lights and the nose piece. I molded this one so I'll be able to make enough to go around

Lastly I started cutting into the chin area to add a little more accuracy to it.

I did a lot today on my day off I cut out the area between the cheek bulge and light area and made a new one from scratch. with a little cleaning up and some modification i think it will do just fine

I've been using a blown up pic of the game cover for my primary reference
halohelm.jpg

I don't need it to be exact but I do want everything to be there and in the right place approximately.
Started redefining the lower jaw to be more accurate cutting and adding here and there and its started to look more like the finished product.
20121204_003522.jpg

plus a little more work on the Visor

I know my photos suck they're all take with my phone and I'm no photographer but when i get closer to a finished product I'll get my hands on a good camera and try and to do it some justice.

That is some really detailed work. You're really going all out on this

I really like it a lot. It's builds like this, that make me appreciate the new chief Helmet a lot more.
