Halo 3: ODST Armor (pic heavy)

Wonderful progress!

Do you have any shots of the helmet taken 6 feet back but looking directly into the camera? Most camera lenses start distorting the perspective at 5 feet - and it's worse at 4 feet. Perspective distortion makes it difficult to assess the prop's real proportions.

Looks good so far. What pep file is it from? The WETA one?

there is a thread on the 405th where a bunch of very talented builders have taken each piece and constructed what we needed to get an unfold out of it.

i dont, but ill see about getting some taken soon.

Hmmm...I am very interested in this technique for how you made your helmet and parts! I'm not a computer genius or anything, so I have no idea about what program you used to make your templates. Can you give me a little info about it, or can anyone else? The idea of the computer figuring out scale is a liberating idea for me...I've made things in the past that are either too big or too small.... any help with this would be much appreciated!

You should check www.405th.com

We use a technique called Pepakura. It's a software which convert a 3D file into a paper patern. The paper pattern is done, then fiberglassed, then puttied to get the correct look.

It's far more complex, but don't want to go too much in depth ^^.

hes right.

its not too terribly difficult at all, just a long process. youll have to determine scale for yourself tho. the program will just give you the model of what youre trying to make. it will change everything automatically once you input the scale that you need, but you have to figure the scale for yourself. that might actually be the hardest part. ill see if i cant dig up some better in progress pictures and show you a little bit more.

THIS IS A WARNING!

there is a seller on ebay that has recasted another members ODST Dutch helmet on the 405h, and is selling it using OUR pictures on his auction.

the seller is: Connie-6871 and the item is coming from Hudson, IL.
AKA: Andrew Lowenthal, Andrew L, Weird Nal, Krylon, Tandhem

the picture below is the picture that has been stolen from us and is being used on the auction.

update9-2.jpg

as you can see, its one of the pictures that was listed earlier in this thread. this is the third helmet thats been sold.

please do not buy from or support this seller. 405th has officially blacklisted him.

EDIT 10/5: You may see some of our pictures display broken links in the next week or two. due to the two recasting issues on the 405th, im pulling all of our pictures down, watermarking them, and then reposting.

Thank you so much, LastSpartan, for the link to the site! I've joined, and have been reading up about this. I love the tutorials!

Thank you as well! I certainly would appreciate it! One of the tutorials I was reading, though very helpful, the pictures weren't working. Exceeded bandwith or something. But there is a ton of information there, so I just need to find a place and start reading! :lol

we sell casts of everything we make. i just havent had the chance to hop over and get an actual thread on the junkyard. shoot me a pm if youre interested in something.
