I finally found some white leather that was a very close match for a strap mod. An Etsy seller called MoxiesLeather based out of Canada deals in a "cow white" leather that is very suitable for the strap mods. I procured a 36" x 10" section for $35.00 The Nike EL panels are from Mark Poon's kit, though I oped to a different inverter than the one it came with. It's a 3V coin cell inverter that eliminated the need for soldering. I plan on attaching it to the top of the tongue using adhesive velcro.

Paint arrived early. Ao i started messing with it.. Found the right ratio to mix for splatter

2:1:1 of blue turquoise, blue,green
And came out spot on to the pic cavx posted of the colors, i went to walmart and printed it out for 29cents

Here are pics..

I wasnt really measuring with the white.. Though i should have.. Because i wasted a lot lol.. But i think i got it close enough.. I dont want it too light

Altight.. So i think i am done.. Painting these bad boys..

Here they are ready to get sprayed

I applied some adhesion promoter before paint

Used the toothbrish method to do the splatter.. Did a little extra sincr the splatter is my favorite part lol

Here they are! Freshly painted

Then applied some angelus satin finisher

And the final product::

Just need to touch up some small spots. And remove some off the sole, but too soon to tape up. Will let paint settle and get harder for a couple days, i will tackle the removing excess paint when i do the EL panels

Here's some more progress on mine.

I cast the ankle buckles in silicone, and made some resin versions using Smooth on Shell shock. This way, I have a hard shell but there's way more room under the buckle for the electronics. This is the first test where I dremeled out some round sockets for the inverters. I'm casting a second set with less resin to make them with more room inside and lighter. Of course I'll sand and paint them white afterwards.

I made another set of ankle buckles, this time with more room inside. There's plenty of room now. The outer shell on the bubble shaped part is approx. 1/16" thick, and the outer edges are thicker for strength.

Todays project: change color of markpoons decal kit, to match my splatter

1st attempt: tried using a brush, just how people apply angelus on shoes... Did not work!! It rubbed off the adhesion promoter, i even tried a softer brush.. It came out really streaky too

2nd attempt: looks greeeat!
Knocked off all the color with acetone...
Then adhesion promoter was applied, and sprayed color on. Then applied satin finisher with paint brush

Before and after:

How did you guys remove the inner sole? Mine had a black sole that had no glue.. And then a cardboard sole that seems to be really glued in

The Markpoon EL kit was soldered up and finished. I didn't get the flat doll house wire mainly due to time and laziness. I figured I could get the stock wires to work and no one sees the inside the of the strap anyways when worn.

To prevent the wires from bulging on the outside of the strap, I just did a simple trick. I glued in a layer from a yogurt container :) The soft plastic is flexible and is sandwiched so that the wires don't show.

I laid down a 1" strip of masking tape onto a cut out section from the yogurt container, and cut a flat strip out.

I glued the EL and wire to the outer vinyl using 3M Super 77 which I've used for years in graphic design. The layers of material go:
- Outer white vinyl with hole cut for the EL
- yogurt strip with hole cut for the EL (prevents wire from showing)
- EL glued in (I used CA glue)
- inside piece of vinyl

Even with all these layers, it's no thicker than the V2 strap and still thinner than the HC strap

Completed EL straps and wiring.

Finished the resin ankle buckles. I sanded them, primered and painted them white.
I hot glued in the inverter, switch and battery holder. The wires run along the inside of the strap. *Another trick here is I used "heavy duty" adhesive velcro. The hook side is much thinner than regular velcro and doesn't snag the grey upper of the shoe as easily.

Everything is tucked in nicely inside the hollow ankle buckles.

I've glued on my swooshes on the side (cut from vinyl on this pair).

Nice job! Good thinking on the yogurt container. I finished up my first strap and did notice the bulging. Too late to fix it now, but I'll bear this in mind if I decide to mod my V2's one day. I'm pleased with the end result though. This is my first foray into modding :)
