Halloween ANH Solo for my 3 yr old- Cheap way to go

I had been watching the ESB Solo 4yr old thread by At-At Luvah and added a post there, but figured I'd start my own topic, now that I'm about 98% complete.

I'm actually doing ANH solo for my 3 yr old this year for Halloween which is odd, because he's been talking clone trooper since Clone Wars.

I went thrifty shopping last weekend and bought a few things. Modded them up Monday night.

Here's what I ended up getting:
1- Button up long sleeve t-shirt for $1.29.
I modified it, by cutting the collar in half, folding it in and sewing it shorter. Then I cut the cuffs off and sewed the ends of the sleeves flat. I used the extra material from the cuffs to cover the button holes near the top of the shirt and overlapped the shirt a bit to cover the rest and create the "open" (hairy chest) look. :lol

1- blue pair pants. I just cut slits on side of the legs and did the red ribbon thing by inner weaving it. The part that sucked, is near the top you get part of the pocket showing that is white. Had to cut that down a bit and do a little more stitching.
$1.49 pants, and $2.50 for a roll of red Ribbon

1- Old brown belt for $.99. I cut this down to fit a 3 yr old. I then punched holes in it to fit him, and some extras for the 2 hole look.
I added "part" of an old holster I had laying around to the belt with Rivots. It's a cross between the 2 hole punch belt and the gunbelt. No actual holster added yet.. as pre-school they won't allow the blaster.. so undecided if I even should add it (probably will). But had somthing there now for looks.

1- pair of black boots. They do have a slight lift and heel to them, as they are gals boots.. but for $3.99 and in toddler sz.9, I had to get them. Just noticed they were 50% off as well after looking at the receipt last night. Score.

I have Black fabric left over from my imperial officer workup, so I'm going to work on the vest next.. and then, toy with the blaster idea. Probably just do the Toy repaint..or, find the one I should have laying around somewheres..

Couldn't find the Blaster, so just bought a new one. repaint starts tonight. Problem is, on a 3 yr old.. it works, but it too big for a holster on the side of his leg. It would go down past his boots. So, I might make a small holster to add to the belt for looks... or might just leave it as is and let him carry around the blaster where possible.

Will post more pics when finished and he's "in gear".

Is the blaster you got the tiny one from the 1997 Tiger toys Stormtrooper Room Alarm set seen here? This one was only about 8 inches long. Might be right in scale for the little guy.

That's be the ticket.. if I can find one of them. I've never seen that before. Hrm, and I call myself a SW fan. :wacko

Right now he just has the newer clone packaged Han one. Not sure where my other kenner one went to. Proably boxed up somewhere, but similar in size to the new one.

Thanks for the info on that smaller version. I'll have to look around.

That's actually pretty cool. I've never seen a costume that good for a four year old.

I find it odd that there are no blasters allowed in preschool. Is it like a right of passage? Once you pass preschool you get your blaster?

Joe,

If you don't end up going with the smaller blaster, I would put good money on the idea that the only reason he puts down the blaster is to open his bag as he collects TONS of candy from impressed Gen-Xers. :)

Danakin,
I saw some of those alarms on evilbay.. for a pretty penny. Not saying it's not worth it, but too rich for my blood to just have a smaller blaster for him. LMK what you'd be looking at getting for it. Would be a nice to have so I could do a holster and have something hanging on the side of his leg.

yet.. do agree.. He hasn't put it down yet.. so I'm assuming he won't on halloween either.

He said to me last night while watching the Wild hockey game (and shooting the panthers) "Dad, this is not Han Solo's gun..." Before I could ask.. he says, "Han Solo's gun is black".

So, 2nd intermission we both headed to the garage. And now he has Han Solo's blaster:

10 minute spray job, quick cloth rub with some silver.
Did notice this morning there's some blue showing, so need's one more quick swipe with black and then some brown handles.

but, he was pretty excited about the makeover.

:love

Graduation presents I think. :lol

I dunno.. some flyer said no weapons or toy guns/ knives will be allowed.

I actually got suspended from 5th grade for having one of those ninja plastic butterfly knifes I was messing around with. Someone saw it at my locker.. and then my buddy and I were messing around with the ol' cut a hole in the bottom of a small box thing.. where you stick your finger through it and have some padding in there. Then add a little fake blood, so when you open the box, it looks like a real finger. We apparently freaked out some gal.. one thing lead to another lead to questions lead to.. oh.. Joe has a KNIFE in his locker...

Ah the memories of decades ago. Can't wait til my 3yr old goes throught this, and I can laugh and say.. been there, done that. :rolleyes

and thanks for the compliment!

Thanks, J.

any plans for your little one?

We went with the store bought infant Chewbacca for Nick. Wasn't going to do a store bought, but he just looked so freaking funny in it and I really didn't have time to do something more by tomorrow (first costuming outting at Jack's buddies B-day/halloween party).

I feel bad though.. Jack has always had "daddy made" costumes, and Nick's first two have been store bought.. He's gonna be ticked at me later for it, I know it. :lol

Just got you PM Dan, thanks!

Nice, need some pics in action :thumbsup

opps, did not wait for them to load up SORRY that is one GREAT outfit!

Hmmm... for screen accuracy purposes Han should not be taller than Chewie... or blond.

Otherwise I would say great job and cute kids.

Thanks. Well, we did darken his hair last year for Harry Potter. We'll see if we go that route again. As for the heights, afraid there is nothing I can do there..:lol

Hmmm.... so the shrink ray will effect clothing, but not weapons?

Interesting.....

I just hadn't thit the blaster with the ray yet. Got a mini DL on the way Thanks to Danakin, and will work on a holster to fit it once that arrives. Should be today possibly. :love

DUDE that is awesome. What I would given to have that costume as a kid!!! That is just too cool!!
