Halliwax's weird V3 theory

Looks like the nipple is flexing along with the blade almost like it's not set screwed into the emitter. Geeze that blade material is quite flexable

Hold on, I haven't tallied how many of these ANH stunt casts we know of for myself :D

2 unfinished in private hands
V2
V3

Not including:
Multiple resin casts
wooden buck

That's what I was saying, that the nipple and/or the blade alone are what's tweaked here.

If I cover the blade with my thumb, the hilt itself looks straight to me, but that's just me.

Im guessing there are only set screws opposite eachother, on the x axis and the blade and nipple are tipping on the y axis, perpendicular. Or one set screw, with th3 same result?

I have to go through all my v3 reference photos again, see if the ring under the emitter is tape.. it looks like a really gunky black paint..

If that is tape I wonder if there is a 3mm set screw setup like the v2

Hey Halliwax - bit of a late post - but what a great thread! I'd almost finished a V3 from left over and new machined parts when I saw this so it was a great help. I had a spare ESB board too so perfect for a production V3. Just wanted to add how I was struck looking at the Resin copy how now its pretty obvious where the strange placement of the tri ring comes from! Its exactly this position taken from the resin V3 - also that the Graflex clamp must have slipped forward a touch when it was cast giving the little 3/4mm wide indent around it behind the control box. Thinking about a timeline I guess the guy lathing the MOM in its original state as a Yuma stunt would have followed it and most of the detail straight from this V3 resin version. Some fantastic behind the scenes ROTJ photos too guys! Many I've never seen before.

I have to agree with you on all of that. I’m willing to bet they had a resin cast of the v3 to copy for the Yuma

Like you’ve said this is why there is that “gap” behind the control box on the Yuma between the clamp section and booster

And why the tri ring is almost lined up with the control box

And also why I think the Yuma has a coppery color windvane, you can see on the resin stunts they are more copper then brown like the v3

Thanks - yeah the colour of windvane makes total sense too! - I never really thought much of the V3 until taking a closer look, especially with this thread and the close up photo of the resin copy + considering its true history right back to its casting for ANH. Had great fun making mine, as close as I could get it. Especially the anarchic glee of drilling 3 big holes through the clamp (replica!) dousing it in bleach to weather, and rolling it around on the driveway. Its now one of my favourites!

Alley don’t let the lighting confuse you. Check out how dark obiwans cape is in that picture. This picture has always been darker to me then the rest of them

Not saying the emitter isn’t black, I highly agree with ya, but I think the windvane is more lightly colored then we see in the photo. And just a lighting trick

Even today the windvane is like a chameleon, depending on the light

I think these are two different sabers. The upper has a gloss finish to the booster section, a clamp and overall has a more finished feel to it. The bottom has matt tape holding the wonky pommel to the booster and no clamp.

Yeah we picked up on that awhile ago, I edited post 1, but not all the posts in between

I also believe the v3 at this time emitter was cut off, and removable because of the difference in color between the emitter and windvane

Seams like there is no transition or over spray on the emitter, I think they painted the hilt section and emitter separately

Awesome thread, all. I just want to go back to the beginning of it and ask if anyone has decided what this is?

I feel like the grenade section is fatter than the V2, much like the hero, and it sure looks like the clamp lever is short, and in the same shape as the hero. If someone has a better resolution copy of ESB, could you look at the time 04:50 to 04:52 and maybe pick out more detail?

I've just been watching this clip over and over and I am just real curious as to what that "tool" is. Forgive me if I am derailing the thread, but this is the only place I've seen it discussed.

Same here. In my mind, it's the ANH hero, and they broke it hammering on whatever that is, and it's embarrassingly hidden in a toolbox somewhere.

It's far to blurry for me to see beyond the silhouette. But there is a clamp on it. To my knowledge the v2 had no clamp during esb.

Some say they see a bubble strip, some theories suggest a resin cast of the hero...

I can’t say I believe that
